The Invite, the new tense dinner party comedy directed by Olivia Wilde based on a script by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, was a Sundance hit and has been earning rave reviews. We mentioned it before because Dev Hynes composed the score<\/a>, and now there’s another music angle. <\/p>\n

Wilde stars in the movie alongside Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penelope Cruz, and the cast have been making the promo rounds ahead of the movie’s release next week. In a new segment for Entertainment Weekly, Rogen tells Wilde about an amusing interaction he had with Pharrell Williams. <\/p>\n

Six years ago, while promoting the live-action Lion King movie, Rogen told interviewers that he was the worst singer in the cast and required some coaching. “Pharrell was maybe, like, overdoing it a bit,” Rogen told Seth Meyers, saying he’d rather have learned to sing from a more average singer. (For what it’s worth, although I love Pharrell’s singing voice, I’m not sure I’d describe his vocals as conventionally good.)<\/p>\n

Fast forward to the following Rogen anecdote from the EW video:<\/p>\n

I was at a dinner, and I had made the Lion King movie, and I sing in the movie. And I had been doing interviews, and I had been talking about how Pharrell Williams got really frustrated with my singing. And then I was at a dinner, and Pharrell was there, and he was like, “Hey, I don’t like how you suggest that I got frustrated with your singing.” And I was like, “You did.” And he’s like, “I don’t like you suggesting that I feel frustration.” And I’m like, “You’re feeling it right now, Pharrell. It’s happening. It’s happening at this dinner.”<\/p>\n

Rogen also told a story about Sean Combs inviting him on a hot air balloon ride when they encountered each other at the French Laundry in Napa Valley.
