In terms of trends, Campbell noted Irish hospitality\u2019s \u201cresilience\u201d, a rise in kitchen gardens and a continued blurring of the lines between fine and casual dining. <\/p>\n
Referring to the Michelin Guide, she said she was not a fan \u201cof the corpulent tyre man\u2019s obsession\u201d with high-end, personally ambitious dining.<\/p>\n
While special occasion dining has its place, \u201cpersonally ambitious perfectionism (together with often eye-watering prices) can be very off-putting\u201d, she said. <\/p>\n

A week before Budget 2026, Ms Campbell said that a Vat reduction \u201cor some such relief\u201d for the food and hospitality sector was urgently needed.<\/p>\n
However, she also noted \u201cunnecessary disappointments\u201d in Irish hospitality, and warned against \u201ccutting corners\u201d in business. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe cold hand of the accountant is very apparent in some businesses,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresumably in an understandable response to rising costs, the little extras in bedrooms and bathrooms, the breakfasts showcasing local flavours, the well trained staff sharing wine knowledge, and even the time spent making guests welcome can seem to be under threat.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s as if mean-minded efficiency is the rule in some places, where staff do the job but without meaningful engagement with guests.\u201d<\/p>\n
Campbell\u2019s awards always include generous shout-outs for the people behind great hospitality experiences, and this year her \u2018Hospitality Hero\u2019 was Niall Rochford – long-standing general manager at Ashford Castle, Co Mayo. <\/p>\n
A new category of rural and community awards also saw Castle Leslie Estate in Co Monaghan named \u2018Rural Destination of the Year\u2019.<\/p>\n
