Ireland is due for some warmer weather in the coming days, with Met \u00c9ireann<\/a> forecasting a rise in temperatures to the low to mid 20s this weekend.<\/p>\n As the first weekend of July kicks off with some warmth, as we move through July, hot weather<\/a> may become a frequent experience due to a forecasted heatwave<\/a> which may move over Europe. Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel<\/a> showcased a temperature anomaly map for mid-July, and explained that in some parts of Europe, temperatures could break records and top out at 50 degrees.<\/p>\n “Occasionally when weather forecasting, there are some charts that make you sit up and take notice more than others. In this case it’s a pretty sobering chart to look at… now it is a while ahead but we are pretty confident with the background synoptic delivering this type of scenario. It’s one that we have seen repeatedly across Western Europe so far this year” he explained in a new video to the Ireland’s Weather Channel social media.<\/p>\n Parts of the UK are facing into what is likely to be at least their third heatwave of the summer so far – “if we count the heatwave that we had coming in June, and of course this forthcoming heatwave as well” he said introducing the temperature anomaly map.<\/p>\n “It’s a temperature anomaly map and it is for roughly the 17 of July so it’s a little bit far ahead to be getting excited about in terms of the exact day to day details, however what we will note is the exceptional heat that is expected to develop across the same regions that we have seen multiple heatwaves in so far this year. Across parts of the North of Spain, much of France and Germany, up to the UK and even into ourselves here.”<\/p>\n “The temperature anomalies here are in the region of about 20 degrees about what they should be for this time of year” he added.<\/p>\n “If we translate that to what the actual temperatures are modeled to be, this afternoon’s GFS model indicates that 50 degrees Celsius is possible in parts of the South of France. The previous European records come in around 46 to 48 degrees. That would smash that record, and not only would it break that record, for France itself the record of 46 degrees is already exceptional.”<\/p>\n “It broke the previous record which was set in 2003, but pushing towards 50 degrees Celsius puts Western Europe’s climate into another realm in terms of the severity of the heat waves and the impacts that is likely to have – should we see such temperatures coming to fruition.”<\/p>\n “Into the UK, the possibility of breaking their all time record, 40, 41 maybe even 42 degrees Celcius would be likely. It is undeniable at this point in time as both a meteorologist and a climatologist that we are seeing an exceptional meteorological set up this summer. But, it is not just this summer. This is a pattern that seems to be repeating itself more and more consistently in that Western Europe is becoming more and more exposed to the possibilities of extreme heatwave conditions.”<\/p>\n He explained that the reason behind this change are the development of ridges of high pressure.<\/p>\n Here is Met Eireann’s forecast for the weekend:<\/p>\n Friday<\/p>\n Friday will start dry with some sunny spells before cloud builds through the morning, bringing scattered patches of light rain and drizzle from the west by afternoon, particularly in the north and northwest. The southeast will experience the best of the dry and sunny conditions later, with highest temperatures ranging from 16 degrees in the northwest to 22 degrees in the southeast under light to moderate southwesterly breezes.<\/p>\n Tonight will remain mostly cloudy with scattered light rain, drizzle, mist, and hill fog concentrated in the north and west, while the southeast stays drier with limited clear spells. It will be a mild and humid night with lowest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.<\/p>\n Saturday<\/p>\n Saturday will continue the mostly cloudy trend, remaining dry for most areas, though patchy light rain, drizzle, and mist will still affect Connacht and Ulster. Brighter intervals or sunny spells will break through in the south and southeast, with highest temperatures spanning from 15 to 18 degrees in the north and west up to 19 to 23 degrees in the south and east.<\/p>\n Saturday night will stay cloudy and dry for the majority of the country, apart from some lingering light drizzle and mist in parts of the north and west, with lowest temperatures dropping to between 12 and 15 degrees.<\/p>\n Sunday<\/p>\n Sunday maintains a generally cloudy outlook, with the best of any bright or sunny breaks reserved for the south and southeast. Most regions will stay dry, though patchy light rain, drizzle, and mist will persist in northern and western areas, with highest temperatures reaching 16 degrees in the northwest and up to 23 or 24 degrees in the southeast.<\/p>\n Overnight, conditions will stay cloudy for most as fresh patches of light rain and drizzle spread from the west into Ulster, Connacht, and northern Leinster, while lowest temperatures hold between 12 and 15 degrees.<\/p>\n Want to see more of the stories you love from Dublin Live?
