Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has revealed Tyrone Dobbs’s reaction to the arrival of his long-lost father<\/a>. The star’s character will come face-to-face with his dad for the first time next week<\/a>, which comes as a surprise from Hope and Ruby after they track him down with their dad’s DNA.<\/p>\n

Ross (played by Ian Burfield) enters the fray as part of Cassie Plummer’s exit<\/a> storyline this summer, with Claire Sweeney departing the ITV soap soon.<\/p>\n

The re-emergence of Ross will no doubt cause issues for Cassie, though Ross’s appearance will come as a particular shock to Tyrone too, who knows the girls have a surprise for him at the Bistro in the new scenes.<\/p>\n

“He doesn’t know what it will be,” Alan explained. “The last thing he would be expecting is that the girls had secretly used his DNA to find his biological father. It\u2019s completely out of the blue; I don\u2019t think anyone would be ready for a scenario like that.”<\/p>\n

The star admitted Tyrone is “shocked by the whole scenario”, and once he is left alone with his dad, his “immediate instinct is that he wants to get back home to his girls and his wife to talk about why they\u2019ve done this”.<\/p>\n

“His first thought is, ‘I don\u2019t really want to get to know this guy. I\u2019m old enough; I\u2019ve done all right without a dad, and I certainly don’t need this in my life right now’.”<\/p>\n

He added that Cassie’s reaction is “quite telling” as she “has been living in fear that she might get found out for the lies she\u2019s told along the way”.<\/p>\n

Speaking further about Ross and Tyrone’s early encounter, Alan said: “He absolutely is a stranger, but in those situations, you have an itch to at least get to know the person, speak to them, and see who they are. It becomes more apparent when talking to him, and he realises it was a sweet gesture from the girls.<\/p>\n

“Fiz is a big part of that, encouraging him to just speak to him. Tyrone\u2019s initial perspective is, ‘I\u2019ll just speak to him, get it out of the way, and find out who a part of me is,’ but he doesn’t necessarily want a lasting relationship.”<\/p>\n

However, Tyrone does make an effort, even playing golf with Ross, and he “eventually starts to see a father figure there”.<\/p>\n

“He\u2019s an imposing chap, but quite laid back,” he continued. “Tyrone starts to think, ‘Actually, this guy seems all right, and I could go for a beer with my dad.’ It\u2019s a shame he wasn’t in his life, and he starts to understand the circumstances of why that was the case.”<\/p>\n

Claire previously teased that Ross’s darker side could come to the fore<\/a>, notably given their disturbing history.<\/p>\n

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
