An urgent recall has been issued for a brand of cheese sold in Lidl due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.<\/p>\n

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland warned consumers on Friday that a batch of Deluxe Spanish Castellano Sheeps\u2019 Cheese sold in Lidl<\/a> was being recalled as it contained the harmful disease-causing bacterium.<\/p>\n

In healthy people, symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.<\/p>\n

However, in people who are more vulnerable, the infection can be severe and can lead to serious complications.<\/p>\n

People who are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections include pregnant women, infants, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.<\/p>\n

The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is, on average, three weeks but can range between three and 70 days.<\/p>\n

The recalled<\/a> cheese is branded Deluxe Spanish Castellano Sheeps\u2019 Cheese with a 150 gram pack size. The batch code is 100534252. Its use by date is 08\/11\/2026 and country of origin is Spain.<\/p>\n

The food safety watchdog told the public that recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale in Lidl stores.<\/p>\n

Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale and consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch.<\/p>\n
