A teenager accused of driving a stolen car during an incident where a Garda sergeant was injured during a ramming incident in Glanmire returned to Cork District Court on Tuesday when the case was adjourned for four weeks.<\/p>\n
Scott Caulfield, aged 19, of 221 Cathedral Rd, Gurranabraher, Cork, is charged with two counts of endangerment, specifically that he created a risk of death or serious injury by ramming a garda car in which Sgt Kevin Hastings was sitting.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The second count alleges he caused a risk of death or serious injury to Detective Garda Ian King and Garda Clare McCarthy.<\/p>\n
Garda Niall McCarthy said: \u201cIt is alleged that on June 22 garda\u00ed received information that a 222-registered black Volvo XC90 was the subject of an unauthorised taking during a burglary in Douglas.<\/p>\n
\u201cLater in the day, Det Garda David Hickey who was off-duty in the Glanmire Business Park, saw the car with a number of males inside. Garda\u00ed were alerted. On arrival at the scene they observed the vehicle parked with two males in the front seats. Garda\u00ed parked in front of the vehicle and approached the vehicle at the driver\u2019s side.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe driver reversed, hitting the wall and drove at the parked unmarked patrol vehicle smashing into it causing the vehicle to strike Garda Clare McCarthy, injuring her. The vehicle made good its escape after ramming a civilian van and another Garda car.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Caulfield is also charged with driving the stolen car.<\/p>\n
Cian Yelverton, aged 22, of St Rita\u2019s Ave, Gurranabraher, is charged with being a passenger in the stolen car.
