Tributes from far and wide have been paid to a young Donegal man following the news of his sudden passing.

Donegal Town native and talented musician Finn Gallagher passed away unexpectedly at his home earlier this week.

The young man’s funeral service was held on Friday.

Numerous people and groups who knew Finn have paid tribute to him – including the Hot Press magazine, who he had been a student representative for.

Editor Niall Stokes described Finn as “truly lovely,” “enormously popular” and “very talented” in his tribute.

“We are heartbroken in Hot Press to hear the desperately sad news about Finn,” he said.

“He was a truly lovely young man, who was a great representative for Hot Press, and always threw himself into things in a wonderful, warm, generous and positive spirit. It was a real pleasure working with him and having him as part of our team at events.”

“Finn was enormously popular with the wider Hot Press family. He was also very talented. In addition to his ability as a musician, which impressed so many people, he wrote a lovely piece for us last year about life as a student. We thought very highly of him, in every way.”

“Finn will be greatly missed by everyone here who knew him and worked alongside him. Our hearts are with his father Zak, mother Nuala and sister Lily, and with his greater family, his friends, his fellow musicians and all of those people who loved him so much.”

St Francis’ National School also paid tribute to their “beloved past pupil” Finn.

“Our school community is heartbroken to hear of the passing of our beloved past pupil, Finn Gallagher,” they wrote.

“Finn will always be remembered with such love and affection. His smile, kindness and the happy memories he created during his time in our school will stay with us always. He touched the hearts of so many, and he will never be forgotten.”

“Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with Zack, Nuala, Lily, and the entire Gallagher and Toland families as they face this unimaginable loss. We also keep all of Finn’s friends and everyone who knew and loved him in our thoughts.”

“May you find strength in the love and support that surrounds you, and many precious memories of Finn bring comfort in the days ahead.”

The Donegal Town Community Band also posted a tribute to their beloved “much-loved” former member.

“It is with great sadness that the members of the Donegal Town Community Band extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our much-loved band member, Finn,” they wrote.

“Finn was a dedicated member of our band, a talented musician, and an outstanding glockenspiel player whose enthusiasm, commitment, and friendship brought so much to our band. An Ulster Champion and All-Ireland Champion, Finn proudly represented the Donegal Town Community Band in the Disneyland Paris parade, creating memories we will always cherish.”

“Finn brought music, laughter, and friendship to every rehearsal, performance, and trip. He will be deeply missed by us all, but the wonderful memories we shared will remain with us forever.”
