{"id":533071,"date":"2026-07-04T18:26:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-04T18:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/533071\/"},"modified":"2026-07-04T18:26:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-04T18:26:09","slug":"gardai-object-to-bail-for-accused-in-farranree-break-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/533071\/","title":{"rendered":"Garda\u00ed object to bail for accused in Farranree break-in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">A 44-year-old man armed with a hammer allegedly smashed his way into a house in Farranree just before Christmas and recently there has been an objection to him being released on bail in the case, at Cork District Court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Sergeant Gear\u00f3id Davis said at Cork District Court that garda\u00ed were opposed to bail being granted in the case against Trevor O\u2019Donoghue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">After hearing the application made by the man \u2014 without the benefit of a solicitor because of the free legal aid dispute \u2014 Judge Miriam Walsh remanded him in custody with consent to bail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Mr O\u2019Donoghue was remanded in custody until July 6.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Sgt Davis said it was alleged that the defendant was arrested at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cIt is alleged [by the householder] that he could be heard banging on a garden wall at the back of the house,\u201d Sgt Davis said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cHe then came through the living room window. Garda\u00ed arrived, and he was standing at the back door. He had a hammer in his hand. Garda\u00ed shouted at him to drop the hammer, which he did.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cThe call came to garda\u00ed to go to the house at Cushing Place, Farranree, at 3.40am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Bail conditions require Mr O\u2019Donoghue to reside at an address at Kilbeg, Bandon, Co Cork.
