Sam Fender<\/a> and Olivia Dean<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Rein Me In\u2019 has tied with Wet Wet Wet<\/a>\u2018s record on the UK Singles Chart.<\/p>\n

The track is a firm fan-favourite, winning the BRIT Award for Song Of The Year<\/a> as well as scoring Fender his first ever Number One single<\/a>. The track broke the record for the most consecutive weeks spent in the Top 40 before reaching the top, and has spent 15 non-consecutive weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart.<\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s racked up another achievement, having spent the joint highest number of weeks at Number One by any British single in UK Official Chart history, meaning it now ties with Wet Wet Wet\u2019s \u2018Love Is All Around\u2019 \u2013 which spent 15 weeks in the top spot in 1994 \u2013 for the longest-running Number One by a British artist.<\/p>\n

As noted by Official Charts<\/a>, \u2018Rein Me In\u2019 has also spent the joint highest number of weeks in the Top Ten for\u202fany non-Christmas single ever at a massive 37 weeks, level with\u202fHarry Styles\u2019\u202f\u2019As It Was\u2019.<\/p>\n

It now trails behind just two tracks on the Official Singles Chart all-time list, Bryan Adams\u2019 \u2018(Everything I Do) I Do It For You\u2019 (16 weeks) and Frankie Laine\u2019s \u2018I Believe in Love\u2019 (18 weeks).<\/p>\n

The song originally featured on Fender\u2019s third and latest studio album \u2018People Watching<\/a>\u2019, but later took on new life during his\u00a0huge London Stadium gig last year, when he brought Dean out in front of the 80,000-strong crowd<\/a>\u00a0and performed a collaborative rendition.<\/p>\n

The two of them would then join forces twice more at shows to share the duet \u2013 both held at\u00a0Fender\u2019s huge homecoming shows at Newcastle\u2019s St. James\u2019 Park<\/a>, and last June,\u00a0they officially released the track<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Back in May, North Shields singer-songwriter Fender was the recipient of the Songwriter of the Year prize at the Ivor Novello Awards<\/a>, and was presented the prize by Elton John<\/a>, who described him\u00a0as \u201done\u00a0of the greatest lyricists Britain has ever produced\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat impresses me about Sam so much is his honest outlook on what happens when you grow up in somewhere like North Shields,\u201d John said at the ceremony. \u201cHis lyrical ability to paint pictures that are grim, uplifting, whatever, makes him one of the greatest lyricists I think Britain has ever produced.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nodding to the ongoing success of \u2018Rein Me In\u2019<\/a>, he added:\u00a0\u201cThe only thing I\u2019ll say is, for Christ\u2019s sake, you\u2019ve been at Number One for 12 weeks now, bugger off!\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0Fender and John released \u2018Talk\u00a0To\u00a0You\u2019<\/a>,\u00a0a song included\u00a0on\u00a0the deluxe version of \u2018People Watching\u2019,\u00a0which won the\u00a0Mercury Prize<\/a>\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n

Fender also told Elton last year that he had already started thinking about the follow-up to \u2018People Watching\u2019<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m going to make another album, I think,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve got a load of other songs, so I want to make another record.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a four-star review of \u2018People Watching\u2019<\/a>,\u00a0NME\u00a0wrote: \u201cReflective, analytical and vulnerable, \u2018People Watching\u2019 does exactly what the title may suggest: takes stock of the characters, friends and loved ones who have made Fender the person he is today.
