Renivaldo Figueiredo Lima, 55, was arrested in Ireland after being on the run for 14 years<\/p>\n
This Brazilian rapist at the centre of a worldwide manhunt for almost 15 years has been arrested – after he was found working on an Irish farm.<\/p>\n
The Irish Mirror has confirmed that Renivaldo Figueiredo Lima is now locked up in Dublin\u2019s Cloverhill Prison following his arrest – and is set to be deported back to his home country in the coming weeks to finally face justice.<\/p>\n
Lima, 55, has been on the run from his native Brazil<\/a> since he fled the country in 2012 – shortly before he was convicted of raping a minor.<\/p>\n He was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice – which means cops from the organisation\u2019s 190 member states are asked to arrest the suspect if they spot him.<\/p>\n Sources tell us Lima, who is believed to have been living in Ireland for at least a decade under a false identity, was arrested after gardai<\/a> were tipped off that he was working on a farm in Co Cavan<\/a>.<\/p>\n The fugitive was convicted of the crime of rape of a vulnerable person<\/p>\n Officers established that he had false documents and he was then arrested by detectives from the Garda National Immigration Bureau at the end of April.<\/p>\n He has been in Cloverhill Prison<\/a> ever since on foot of a deportation order. That is likely to be executed in the coming weeks and he will soon be flown back to his native Campos Belos on north east Brazil.<\/p>\n Brazilian cops had been hunting Lima for more than a decade and earlier this year got Interpol<\/a>, the world-wide policing agency with some 190 member countries, to issue the Red Notice against him.<\/p>\n That is an appeal for cops in member countries to arrest the fugitive on site.<\/p>\n Ireland has no extradition agreement with Brazil, so officers could not arrest him specifically over the Red Notice.<\/p>\n But they were able to arrest him on the immigration offences – and that\u2019s what they did.<\/p>\n Lima is being held at Dublin’s Cloverhill Prison(Image: Niall Carson\/PA Wire)<\/p>\n \u201cHe was not arrested for extradition as there is no treaty,\u201d a source confirmed.<\/p>\n \u201cBut he is being held after Immigration arrested him that is for deportation.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, no matter what, he is going back to Brazil.<\/p>\n The Red Notice was issued on April 7 – and gardai arrested him on April 20 following the anonymous tip off.<\/p>\n Reports first emerged of Lima\u2019s arrest in Ireland in Brazilian media this week.<\/p>\n Get all the big crime and court stories direct to your phone on our new WhatsApp service.
