Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin<\/a> is the second-most popular leader on 35% (no change), followed by Fine Gael leader and T\u00e1naiste Simon Harris on 33% (no change).<\/p>\nLike Ms Cairns, Sinn F\u00e9in leader Mary Lou McDonald and Labour leader Ivana Bacik also saw their popularity levels falling by one point to 30% and two points to 28% respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fine Gael, meanwhile, is now the most popular party in the country. It has increased its support by one percentage point to 20%. Its coalition colleagues, Fianna F\u00e1il, also gained one percentage point, bringing its popularity rating to 17%. <\/p>\n
Sinn F\u00e9in is now the second-most popular party in the State, falling one point to 19%.<\/p>\n
The Social Democrats\u2019 popularity remains unchanged at 12%, while Independents and others have climbed one point to 11%. Independent Ireland, meanwhile, has dropped two points to 7%.<\/p>\n
The popularity of Aont\u00fa, Labour, the Green Party, and People Before Profit all remain unchanged, with the parties sitting at 6%, 3%, 3%, and 2% respectively.<\/p>\n
Some 62% of respondents said that they disapproved of how the Government is handling its job, with just 29% approving.<\/p>\n
Questions on Fianna F\u00e1il\u2019s future, meanwhile, also dominated the poll, as uncertainty over Mr Martin\u2019s stewardship of the party continues.<\/p>\n
Justice minister Jim O\u2019Callaghan is still the favourite to take over from the Taoiseach, with 52% of people stating they would like him to become the next leader of Fianna F\u00e1il.<\/p>\n
This is followed by social protection minister Dara Calleary on 17%, and public expenditure minister and Fianna F\u00e1il deputy leader Jack Chambers on 16%.<\/p>\n
Energy minister Darragh O\u2019Brien was chosen as the next Fianna F\u00e1il leader by 7% of respondents, while 4% of respondents backed children\u2019s minister Norma Foley, and 3% said they would like to see higher education minister James Lawless take over.<\/p>\n
The latest poll was conducted on July 3, and it had a sample size of 1,279 people. The poll\u2019s margin of error was 2.8%.<\/p>\n
