Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has apologised after making comments about Kylie Minogue during an appearance on a comedy podcast.<\/p>\n
Albanese was asked by comedian Nikki Osborne to take part in a “shag, marry, date” game during an episode of her Bush Deep podcast, released on Friday.<\/p>\n
He was asked to choose between Minogue, Nicole Kidman and entertainer Rhonda Burchmore.<\/p>\n
The prime minister initially declined to answer, saying he had recently married Jodie Haydon, but was pressed on whom he would choose if his marriage were to end.<\/p>\n
“Kylie, clearly,” Albanese replied.<\/p>\n
When Osborne asked whether that meant he would marry, have sex with and date the singer, Albanese said: “All of the above.”<\/p>\n
Albanese issued a statement on Monday saying: “I apologise unequivocally for the comments.”<\/p>\n
The remarks drew criticism from opposition politicians and women’s rights groups.<\/p>\n
Liberal senator Sarah Henderson said the comments were “disrespectful to women, embarrassing to Australians and demean the office of Prime Minister”.<\/p>\n
Independent MP Zali Steggall said Albanese should not have taken part in the game and should have challenged it as sexist.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Minogue did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n
The Australian singer, best known for hits including Can\u2019t Get You Out Of My Head, Spinning Around and Padam Padam, won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Pop Recording for the latter track in 2024.<\/p>\n
