Metallica<\/a> wrapped up their mammoth \u2018M72\u2019 tour in London last night (July 5), playing their second night there as part of their \u201cno repeats\u201d weekend. Check out the setlist and fan footage below.<\/p>\n

The thrash metal icons took to the stage in the capital as part of the last UK and Ireland leg of their huge world tour<\/a>, which kicked off back in April 2023 and celebrated the release of latest album \u201872 Seasons<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

London dates came following shows in Dublin, Glasgow, and Cardiff over the past couple of weeks, and the first of the two shows at London Stadium was played on Friday night<\/a> (July 3), where James Hetfield and co. broke out hits including \u2018Master Of Puppets\u2019, \u2018Seek And Destroy\u2019 and \u2018Sad But True\u2019.<\/p>\n

They took to the stage again last night, and broke out an entirely different set after promising that the two London dates would see \u201cno repeats\u201d on the setlist.<\/p>\n

For the second gig, they kicked things off with \u2018Whiplash\u2019, followed by earlier classics including \u2018For Whom The Bell Tolls\u2019, \u2018Ride The Lightning\u2019 and \u2018The Memory Remains\u2019. As seen on night one, just two songs from \u201872 Seasons\u2019 made it into the setlist, and this time around it was the title track and \u2018Screaming Suicide\u2019.<\/p>\n

Other huge hits that were included in the setlist included \u2018The Day That Never Comes\u2019, \u2018Wherever I May Roam\u2019, \u2018The Unforgiven\u2019, and their cover of \u2018Whiskey In The Jar\u2019. They also rounded the night off with back-to-back renditions of \u2018Blackened\u2019, \u2018Moth Into Flame\u2019, \u2018One\u2019 and \u2018Enter Sandman\u2019.<\/p>\n

As is tradition during their shows, bassist Rob Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett broke out a unique \u201cdoodle\u201d specifically for the concert, where they cover a couple of tracks that were written in the city that they are performing in.<\/p>\n

After playing a medley of Ian Dury<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll\u2019 and The Clash<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Guns of Brixton\u2019 on Friday, Hammett and Trujillo put their own spin on Black Sabbath\u2019s<\/a> \u2018Electric Funeral\u2019 and Sex Pistols<\/a>\u2018 \u2018Holiday In the Sun\u2019 for the Sunday gig.<\/p>\n

Support for Friday came from Knocked Loose<\/a> and Gojira<\/a>, and last night it was Avatar<\/a> and Pantera<\/a> who opened the show in Stratford.<\/p>\n

The second London show is the last of the 2026 UK and European dates Metallica have planned, and later this year the heavy metal legends will be heading back over the pond for a run of residency dates at the Sphere in Las Vegas<\/a>. Those shows commence on October 1, and will run into 2027.<\/p>\n

Their last new music was the \u201872 Seasons\u2019 album which dropped in 2023, although they did recently rerelease their 1997 album \u2018Reload\u2019 (Remastered)\u2019<\/a>, with previously unreleased demos, rough mixes, live performances and more.<\/p>\n

As well as covering Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, The Clash and Ian Dury as part of the \u201cKirk and Rob Doodle\u201d part of the show, other tracks they have covered across the tour include covered The Pogues, The Proclaimers<\/a>, a-ha<\/a>, and ABBA<\/a>, and even Tom Jones\u2019 \u2018Delilah\u2019 in Cardiff\u2019<\/a> \u2013 despite the song being banned from the Principality Stadium.<\/p>\n

Metallica have also drawn attention for Kirk Hammett wearing a \u201cTaylor Swift Is A CIA Psyop\u201d shirt<\/a> on stage, urged fans to donate blood and plasma by becoming the first-ever metal group to collaborate with UK blood services,<\/a> and also donated \u00a320,000 to a foodbank in Cardiff.<\/a><\/p>\n
