{"id":536589,"date":"2026-07-07T00:18:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T00:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/536589\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T00:18:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T00:18:18","slug":"council-withdraws-judicial-review-over-redevelopment-of-long-term-vacant-shopping-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/536589\/","title":{"rendered":"Council withdraws judicial review over redevelopment of long-term vacant shopping centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Waterford City and County Council has withdrawn its judicial review of a proposed redevelopment of a shopping centre, which has remained largely vacant for 18 years, after a High Court judge indicated he would not find in their favour.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed redevelopment of Ferrybank Shopping Centre is now expected to go ahead after the council withdrew its High Court challenge on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The council had sought a judicial review of Kilkenny County Council\u2019s decision to grant planning permission for the long-awaited redevelopment of the site, which has been largely vacant since 2008. The site straddles the Waterford and Kilkenny local authorities&#8217; borders.<\/p>\n<p>The approved plans include Dunnes Stores being the main tenant, with several additional retail units, restaurants and caf\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>A council spokesperson confirmed that it had withdrawn \u201cits judicial review proceedings in the High Court&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson explained that \u201cfollowing careful deliberation and legal advice, the Council initiated judicial review proceedings and was granted leave to proceed by the High Court on November 3rd, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the hearing on June 11th last, Mr Justice Humphreys indicated that, were he to deliver judgment on the case, he would not find in Waterford City and County Council\u2019s favour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"not-prose no-underline\" data-action=\"click\" data-category=\"Read more article clicked\" data-label=\"https:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/from-where-is-george-gibney-to-guilty-verdict-for-abusing-young-girls-1923053.html\" data-value=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/from-where-is-george-gibney-to-guilty-verdict-for-abusing-young-girls-1923053.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/george-gibney-e1783349253139.jpg\" class=\"rounded-sm object-contain bg-transparent z-10 w-full h-full not-prose\" alt=\"From 'Where Is George Gibney?'
