Brightwater has bought the Attadale Rehabilitation Hospital from Ramsay Health with plans to convert the site into an aged care facility.<\/p>\n
The 53-year-old hospital had specialised in helping patients recovering from surgeries and extended illness at a site just metres from the Swan River. The facility will house 39 new aged care beds from early next year.<\/p>\n
Its the latest in a flurry of deals in WA healthcare.<\/p>\n
The State Government is buying St John of God\u2019s Mount Lawley Hospital for $80 million, while collapsed Healthscope\u2019s Mount Hospital near Kings Park will be taken over by Bethesda.<\/p>\n
Brightwater operates nine nursing homes. a retirement village and 15 supported living sharehouses across Perth but estimates another 2700 aged care beds will be needed in WA by 2030.<\/p>\n
Chief executive Catherine Stoddart said the Attadale acquisition would help address a critical shortage of aged care places.<\/p>\n
\u201cWestern Australia\u2019s aged care system is under increasing pressure, and we urgently need to bring more high-quality care places online,\u201d Dr Stoddart said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis acquisition gives Brightwater an opportunity to respond directly to that challenge by delivering 39 new aged care places in a high-demand metropolitan area.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery additional place matters. Increasing aged care capacity not only gives older West Australians and their families more options but also helps ease pressure across the broader hospital and healthcare system.\u201d<\/p>\n
The price tag for the sale was not disclosed but the non-profit has pledged to invest in a refurbishment of the site.<\/p>\n
Brightwaters\u2019 latest filings with the national charity regulator show revenue of about $250m last financial year.<\/p>\n
