{"id":537301,"date":"2026-07-07T10:30:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T10:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/537301\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T10:30:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T10:30:10","slug":"newcastle-transfer-news-club-closing-in-on-signing-of-ajax-midfielder-sean-steur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/537301\/","title":{"rendered":"Newcastle transfer news: Club closing in on signing of Ajax midfielder Sean Steur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/newcastle-united\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Newcastle United<\/a> are closing in on the signing of 18-year-old Ajax midfielder Sean Steur.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The club have the money to reinvest in the squad after midfielder Sandro Tonali joined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/tottenham-hotspur\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/cx2jel145g5o\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">for a fee worth up to \u00a3100m.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/cgqjkq3kwdgo\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">After spending \u00a343m on Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure,<\/a> it is understood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/newcastle-united\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Newcastle<\/a> are now closing in on Steur for a fee which could rise to about \u00a323m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Steur only signed a new contract with Ajax last summer, but the deal expires in 2028, leaving the Dutch club in a slightly vulnerable position.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The academy graduate made his first-team debut in December, but quickly established himself as a regular, starting in the De Klassieker win against Feyenoord a couple of weeks later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to Opta, of those midfielders who started the season aged 18 or younger in the Eredivisie, Steur ranked first for chances created (15), total carries (231) and duel success (56.8%).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He was second for passes (623), passing accuracy (89.7%), tackles (20), possession won (49) and duels won (46).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of 18-year-old Ajax midfielder Sean Steur.
