Coronation Street’s Joseph Brown comes close to losing his place at Oakhill School next week, shortly after Chesney and Gemma learn that the youngster’s academic success has suffered a downturn.<\/p>\n

At the caf\u00e9, Joseph hands his school report to Chesney and Gemma, then makes a hasty exit. And the parents soon realise why Joseph was so keen to leave, when they read that their son is often late to hand over his homework\u2026<\/p>\n

“Joseph has always been a star pupil,” points out our Corrie source. “It shocks Chesney and Gemma that standards have slipped.<\/p>\n

“But Gemma soon realises why, and she tells Bernie that it’s too tricky for Joseph to focus at home. Eager to help, Bernie tells Gem and Ches that Joseph is welcome at No.7 to do his homework anytime he likes, which the couple are beyond grateful for.”<\/p>\n

However, Chesney and Gemma’s problems are far from over, when Ches reveals to his wife that Joseph’s maternal grandma Linda Hancock has gone bankrupt and is no longer able to support the cost of private school.<\/p>\n

Linda, played by Jacqueline Leonard, was last seen in 2024 and was known for splashing the cash where Joseph was concerned. This caused tensions at the time as she was accused of overstepping the boundaries, but the consequences of her going broke could be even worse\u2026<\/p>\n

Later on, Chesney admits to Gemma that he has been investigating whether he can secure a loan so that Joseph can continue at Oakhill. However, Bernie is mortified at the idea of her daughter and son-in-law falling into debt.<\/p>\n

Chesney ends up ditching his idea to borrow cash, though, when he informs Joseph that Linda has managed to come up with the money for his school fees after all.<\/p>\n

With a guaranteed place at Oakhill, will Joseph turn his school report around \u2013 or continue to struggle?<\/p>\n

Joseph was enrolled in the posh private school two years ago \u2013 which was Linda’s idea as she wanted him to have opportunities that his parents didn’t. Linda agreed to pay all the relevant costs, but Chesney and Gemma feared that she could be trying to buy her grandson’s affections.<\/p>\n

Once the couple got on board with the idea, Joseph sat the entrance exam and passed.<\/p>\n
