Sandro Tonali has been accused of just joining Spurs \u2018for the big bucks\u2019 and not for his so-called desire to play in the \u2018great atmosphere\u2019 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.<\/p>\n
The north London club smashed their transfer record for the second time in a matter of days after securing the \u00a3100million capture of the Italy international from Premier League rivals Newcastle<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, talkSPORT presenter Gabby Agbonlahor is having none of Tonali<\/a>\u2018s \u2018real reason\u2019 for making the switch to down to the capital.<\/p>\n Tonali expressed his excitement to play at the home of Tottenham<\/a> in his first interview as a Spurs player, to which host Jeff Stelling quipped: \u201cHe could have done that as a Newcastle player.\u201d<\/p>\n READ: Transfer rumour ranking: Spurs to go big for Prem striker, Chelsea set silly price<\/a><\/p>\n Tonali said: \u201cI can\u2019t wait to play in this stadium. Because I played against with AC Milan in the Champions League [and] Newcastle. I found the atmosphere great; I found every time the full stadium.\u201d<\/p>\n Former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor lashed out at Tonali\u2019s comments, however, stating: \u201cAtmosphere? Do me a favour!\u201d. Don\u2019t make me laugh.<\/p>\n \u201cI went to the game last season, Spurs against Aston Villa. The quietest stadium I\u2019ve probably ever been to. Zero atmosphere.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019ve [Tonali] gone for the big bucks; you\u2019ve gone for the money that Newcastle probably wouldn\u2019t give you.<\/p>\n \u201cTo leave Newcastle to go to Spurs is a crazy decision. Let\u2019s just call it as it is.\u201d<\/p>\n Agbonlahor takes other Tottenham signings to task<\/p>\n Tonali wasn\u2019t the only new Spurs signing to get the treatment from Agbonlahor, though, with Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson also criticised after their free transfer moves this summer.<\/p>\n Indeed, Agbonlahor added on talkSPORT<\/a>: \u201cSenesi, same. You\u2019ve gone there on a free transfer for the money. Andy Robertson, you\u2019ve gone there for the money. So has Tonali for the money. Do me a favour. The stadium\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Agbonlahor at least agreed with Stelling\u2019s assessment that Roberto De Zerbi played some part in Tonali\u2019s decision to make the switch to north London.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cOne thing I will say: Italian manager in De Zerbi, I\u2019ll give him that.<\/p>\n \u201cBut really, Jeff, he\u2019s gone for the big, big bucks. Spurs have got money to spend\u2026as a Spurs fan, would I want players coming for the money? That seems to be happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
