Brittney appeared in the series<\/a> for six years before exiting during the ninth season last year<\/a>, and the actor has shared that he only has fond memories when it comes to his time as the fan-favourite character.<\/p>\n ITV<\/p>\n Related: Best streaming services UK 2026 \u2013 including Disney Plus, Netflix, iPlayer and Apple TV<\/a><\/p>\n Upon learning of the detective drama’s conclusion, Brittney recalled to RadioTimes<\/a>: “Oh, I was both heartbroken, in the sense of it was one of the longest running shows, I think, that ITV had had in that way.”<\/p>\n Brittney also noted that he was “proud” of the creators following James Norton’s departure as Reverend Sidney Chambers in the fourth season, and that he was lucky that the series continued for as long as it did.<\/p>\n “So there [was] no pressure on me to try and keep it going,” he added. “[But] then luckily, it did, and I did six wonderful [seasons] of that, and I loved it. It will always be a special place in my heart.”<\/p>\n The actor also reserved praise for his successor Rishi Nair, who debuted as Reverend Alphy Kotteram in the ninth season. After directing him in some episodes, Brittney described Nair as “brilliant” ahead of the “beautiful ending”.<\/p>\n “I was actually at the wrap party at the end of last year to say goodbye, and me, James, and Rishi were all there,” he shared. “It was a beautiful goodbye to a beautiful show that I think people will always remember fondly.”<\/p>\n Robson Green, who played DI Geordie Keating all the way through the series, said of its conclusion: “From the very beginning, I have had the incredible fortune to be part of this extraordinary team of talented, passionate and dedicated individuals.”<\/p>\n ITV<\/p>\n Related: Grantchester’s Robson Green details unexpected James Norton reunion: “It was joyous”<\/a><\/p>\n “The bonds we’ve formed extend far beyond the camera lens, and I know that they will endure long after the final scene… I am forever grateful for the memories, friendships and love that this journey has given me.
