Death diving is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. The hobby, also known as d\u00f8ds diving or d\u00f8dsing in its mother tongue of Norwegian, is a form of cliff diving that involves jumping horizontally, before curling into a pike at the last second in order to narrowly avoid a fatal belly flop. Recently, a group of death divers managed to make the activity even more dangerous, by hucking themselves off a 65-foot-tall iceberg.<\/p>\n

The stunt was engineered by 00NATION<\/a>, a Norwegian lifestyle brand that first began in esports and has since expanded into action sports, and performed by divers Truls Torp and C\u00f4me Girardot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been on my mind since I started d\u00f8dsing actually,\u201d explained Girardot. \u201cLike what defines a d\u00f8ds the most? I feel like the spirit of d\u00f8dsing is jumping off an iceberg and it\u2019s so raw. It\u2019s so pure. It\u2019s so d\u00f8ds, you know.\u201d<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know, but they seem confident in it, so they trekked over to Greenland<\/a> and began surveying the area for an appropriate hunk of ice to throw themselves off of.<\/p>\n

Death diving is already dangerous enough (in fact, C\u00f4me Girardot broke his back just a year ago<\/a> attempting a 34-meter dive in Mallorca), but diving from a glacier adds a whole slew of complications to the stunt. The team had to take into account currents, shifting takeoff points, the possibility of a piece of the glacier falling off, and massive chunks of ice floating in the landing zone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the type of jump you start to think about your loved ones, people you care about,\u201d said Torp \u201cBut I think our plan is solid. And I talked with C\u00f4me yesterday. We\u2019re not here to take the biggest risk. We\u2019re not here to prove to someone that we\u2019re the best at this. We\u2019re here to to make a sick memory.\u201d<\/p>\n
