Ridley Scott<\/a>, the king of sci-fi, is officially returning to the genre later this year for his new movie, The Dog Stars<\/a>. Josh Brolin<\/a> and Jacob Elordi<\/a> star opposite Margaret Qualley<\/a> and Benedict Wong<\/a> in the film, which is scheduled to open in theaters around the world on August 28. Scott has been on a hiatus from the sci-fi genre for nearly 10 years now after he last directed Alien: Covenant<\/a> in 2018. He has focused mostly on historical epics in recent years, though that hasn\u2019t exactly worked out for him. Napoleon<\/a> (starring Joaquin Phoenix) is widely regarded as one of the biggest box office bombs of Scott\u2019s career, and while Gladiator II<\/a> (starring Paul Mescal<\/a>) avoided being branded a flop, it\u2019s not remembered in anywhere near the same light as its predecessor.<\/p>\n Although he\u2019s not been directing sci-fi movies and TV shows, Scott does have a steady hand in producing some of the biggest sci-fi projects of the last few years, including Alien: Earth<\/a>. FX recruited Fargo creator Noah Hawley<\/a> to write Alien: Earth, and the show did so well in 2025 that it was picked up for Season 2. This afternoon, FX confirmed that production is officially underway on Alien: Earth Season 2, with Jerome Flynn<\/a>, Sam Spruell, and Tracey Ullman<\/a> all joining the cast. Ullman is best known for her work in Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/a>, while Flynn is famous for playing Bronn in Game of Thrones<\/a>.
