<\/p>\nA hot weather advisory is currently in place for the island of Ireland, issued by Met Eireann, and temperatures may approach the national record<\/p>\n
European heatwave<\/p>\n
The highest temperature ever recorded in Ireland is 33.3\u00b0C, but in the coming days the country may see the mercury rise just as high.<\/a><\/p>\n This record was measured at Kilkenny Castle in County Kilkenny<\/a> on June 26, 1887, and over the past few weeks as Ireland and much of Western Europe has endured waves of hot temperatures<\/a>, it is possible that the 189 year record may be replicated in 2026.<\/p>\n The highest temperature ever officially recorded in Dublin<\/a> was 33.0\u00b0C. This record was measured at the Phoenix Park weather<\/a> station on July 18, 2022.<\/p>\n While this weekend is due to be very warm and sunning, with temperatures in the high 20s and maybe even grazing 30 degrees, as we move into next week there is a chance things will get even hotter. Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel explained that temperatures could approach the currently held record high, and that drought and wild fire risks are elevated.<\/p>\n He said that the east and south of the country have been experiencing glorious, hot summer sunshine on Friday with temperatures getting into the 26 to 29 degrees Celsius range through the afternoon, and this is set to be the same for Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n “Temperatures again up to the high 20s, 28, 29 very possible, maybe even a 30 somewhere across the country” he said of Saturday in a new forecast made on Facebook<\/a>. Things may be a little breezier on Sunday but still very warm.<\/p>\n There is a risk of drought and grass turning yellow: “The evaporation levels are very high over the weekend, meaning we will see the ground dry out further. We are going to start to see the grass start to turn colour in places, becoming kind of a more of a yellowy kind of shade as we go into next week, as the drought conditions continue and intensify.<\/p>\n “The heatwave conditions, if anything, intensify as well. We are looking at temperatures between Tuesday and Thursday possibly peaking during that time, with values into the low 30s. Now, that means we could push close towards the all-time temperature record of 33.3 degrees Celsius. We will keep you posted on that” he said.<\/p>\n He added that wildfires are somehting to be cautious of too, as things are dry and breezy.<\/p>\n “Keep an eye out in terms of the risk of wildfires over the weekend and into next week with strong easterly winds, with evaporation levels very high, with quite a lot of dry material on the ground at this stage, there is the perfect conditions for the development of some wildfires,” he said.<\/p>\n “So, be aware if you are out and about, if you are having a barbecue in a remote area, let’s say, or an area where there is a lot of grassland or a lot of forestry, just be aware of the risk of wildfires in those particular areas.”<\/p>\n A hot weather advisory is currently in place for the island of Ireland, issued by Met Eireann<\/a>. The advisory has been extended until Friday next week. The advisory had been due to expire on Tuesday.<\/p>\n Daytime temperatures<\/a> are due to widely exceed 25 degrees Celsius, with values climbing to the high 20s or even low 30s in places from Friday, into the weekend and beyond.
