{"id":543877,"date":"2026-07-11T04:33:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T04:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/543877\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T04:33:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T04:33:13","slug":"corks-old-head-golf-links-seeks-planning-for-major-clubhouse-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/543877\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork&#8217;s Old Head Golf Links seeks planning for major clubhouse expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">One of the world\u2019s most exclusive golf resorts is planning another expansion, with proposals for more luxury guest accommodation at the iconic Old Head Golf Links near\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corknews\/arid-41869623.html\">Kinsale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Ashbourne Holdings has lodged plans with\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corknews\/arid-41875838.html\">Cork County Council<\/a> for a major revamp of the clubhouse at Downmacpatrick, Old Head, including eight new guest bedrooms, alterations to its bar and restaurant, and the conversion of a planned spa into luxury accommodation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The application also seeks retention permission for changes carried out to the clubhouse. This was originally approved in 2020 and extended in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Those include reducing the size of the bar and restaurant, relocating the cigar room, and changes to the building\u2019s southern fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Four of the new bedrooms would be created in a single-storey extension, replacing a previously approved roof garden, while another four would come from converting a permitted spa and swimming pool on the lower ground floor into guest accommodation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The plans also include alterations to the pro shop, members\u2019 bar and lounge, members\u2019 changing rooms, and other clubhouse facilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The latest plans come as the world-renowned clifftop course continues to attract wealthy golfers from around the globe. Previously published company accounts show Old Head welcomes around 20,000 visitors every year, with 80% travelling from overseas.
