Mayo are through to a stunning ninth All-Ireland final in 22 years after a second-half demolition job brought to an end Louth’s fairy-tale run to the last four.<\/p>\n
Those previous eight finals, of course, have ended in heartbreak but in a season where such heights seemed unscalable, Andy Moran\u2019s men said ‘no’ to such predictions and will now face Kerry or Dublin on 26 July with high hopes of a first triumph since 1951.<\/p>\n
Moran made his debut in 2004, the year of the first of those eight previous final losses, and in his debut season on the line he watched as his players racked up 3-23 in a 17-point win that should have ultimately been much more emphatic only for a series of missed goal chances when victory was already secure.<\/p>\n
The brilliant Ryan O\u2019Donoghue and Darragh Beirne grabbed first-half majors, but it looked like anyone\u2019s game as the Connacht side trotted off 2-09 to 0-11 ahead \u2013 nothing in today\u2019s momentum-swinging game.<\/p>\n
Mayo were not going to fall victim to that though, showing intent from the start of the second half and destroying their opponents for 35 minutes straight.<\/p>\n
Louth had managed 0-11 in the first half, it took until the 58th minute for that to move to 0-12 and by then Mayo were 13 points ahead..<\/p>\n
That advantage was helped by Conor Loftus finishing from close range with 20 minutes left, and from there, it was a matter of how much they\u2019d win by.<\/p>\n
