Inland Fisheries Ireland is investigating a “significant fish kill” that was discovered in West Cork<\/a> this week.<\/p>\n

Several hundred dead juvenile bream have been recovered at Curraghalicky Lake near Dunmanway – the cause of the fish kill is not yet known. A spokesperson for Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) said a new “national interagency protocol” for investigating significant fish kills has been activated. Monitoring and testing on the site are being carried out.<\/p>\n

Investigators have reported the findings to the Environmental Protection Agency, Cork County Council, the Marine Institute, and the River Basin Management Service.<\/p>\n

This comes as the IFI are also investigating a “suspected pollution incident” in the Ross River at Killavullen near Mallow in North Cork<\/a>. The incident was reported by a local to the IFI through their 24\/7 confidential number.<\/p>\n

No dead fish have been reported yet and Cork County Council has been notified.<\/p>\n

Another suspected pollution incident is also being examined by the IFI in the Deenagh River in Co. Kerry. Here, there are also no reports of any dead fish – but the a spokesperson for the IFI said they are keeping a close eye on all the impacted sites in the South at the moment.<\/p>\n
