{"id":545924,"date":"2026-07-12T13:32:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T13:32:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/545924\/"},"modified":"2026-07-12T13:32:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T13:32:16","slug":"new-leisure-facilities-and-events-in-the-pipeline-for-cork-tourist-hotspots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/545924\/","title":{"rendered":"New leisure facilities and events in the pipeline for Cork tourist hotspots\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">Major strides are being made in South Cork tourists hotspots to enhance visitor attractions and facilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">These include a campervan\/motorhome facility, a muga (multi-use games area), a coastal walkway, beach toilets, and free concerts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">This emerged at a meeting of\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corknews\/arid-41875871.html\">Cork County Council&#8217;s<\/a> Bandon\/Kinsale Municipal District committee, when its municipal officer and engineers outlined a number of projects that are in train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Engineers are assessing land at Garrettstown Pitch and Putt Club, following representations from Independent councillor Alan Coleman.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">It will be assessed by council engineers in the coming weeks to determine suitable locations for designated campervan parking within the site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">It\u2019s hoped the facility will be similar to a very popular and lucrative one that was developed some years ago by the county council in Cobh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">A new toilet block is to be installed at Garrettstown beach, which will be wheelchair-accessible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Polit initiative<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Meanwhile, as part of a pilot initiative, two new temporary toilets have been installed at the Dock Beach in Kinsale.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">These will remain in place until the end of August. However, municipal district officer Brian Dunne warned that in the event of anti-social behaviour or vandalism, they may have to be removed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Dunne said the council has appointed a contractor to carry out enhanced work on a walking trail by Charles Fort, Kinsale, which is set to start in late August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The municipal district council is also planning to build a muga in the coastal village of Courtmacsherry. A timeframe for that project has not been revealed yet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Meanwhile, some free music festivals are planned in Kinsale and Bandon, which are being sponsored by the council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">For Kinsale, upcoming events include the appearance of Ballinspittle Comhaltas Ceolt\u00f3ir\u00ed \u00c9ireann on the Short Quay on August 23 and 30 from 3pm to 4.30pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">In Bandon on July 11, Baile N\u00fais Comhaltas Ceolt\u00f3ir\u00ed \u00c9ireann will perform at Ballymodan Place from 11am to 12.30pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">On August 15, the same group will carry out another performance at the same venue and same times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Major strides are being made in South Cork tourists hotspots to enhance visitor attractions and facilities.
