The Cure<\/a> have announced that Simon Gallup\u2019s son, Eden Gallup, is filling in for him on tour as he\u2019s \u201cnot well enough to play\u201d.<\/p>\n

Robert Smith<\/a> and co. are out on tour across the UK and Europe<\/a>, and are currently in the thick of a three-show stint in Berlin.\u00a0However, on the first gig in the city\u2019s Wulheide on Friday (July 10), fans noticed that Gallup was absent, with his son Eden taking his place.<\/p>\n

The band dedicated \u2018Lullaby\u2019, the first song of the encore, to the long-serving bassist, and later took to Instagram to explain his absence.<\/p>\n

\u201cShortly before the first of our three Berlin Wuhlheide concerts yesterday, Simon was taken ill,\u201d Smith wrote. \u201cHis son Eden shifted sideways to save the show. Unfortunately, Simon is still not well enough to play, so Eden will be filling the bass breach again tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope you will join us in wishing Simon the speediest of recoveries \u2013 And Eden thanks! \u2013 Onwards,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Last month,\u00a0Robert Smith revealed The Cure are done with a follow-up<\/a>\u00a0to 2024\u2019s\u00a0\u2018Songs For A Lost World\u2019<\/a>\u00a0while another \u201cpoppy\u201d album is also being worked on. Smith recently teamed up with\u00a0Olivia Rodrigo<\/a>\u00a0for \u2018What\u2019s Wrong With Me\u2019<\/a>. It came after\u00a0Smith said he\u2019d \u201cenjoyed a couple of memorable nights in the studio\u201d with<\/a>\u00a0Rodrigo earlier this year, following\u00a0his appearance as part of her headline slot at Glastonbury 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t believe this song exists with the person that it exists with,\u201d Rodrigo said of the collaboration. \u201cI\u2019m just so fucking over the moon [\u2026] I feel like I\u2019m gonna cry. I can\u2019t believe that\u2019s a thing that happened in the real world and not just a figment of my imagination.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith also features on\u00a0The Rolling Stones\u2019<\/a>\u00a0upcoming album\u00a0\u2018Foreign Tongues<\/a>, contributing guitar on \u2018Divine Intervention<\/a>\u2019 and\u00a0providing synth and backing vocals on \u2018Never Wanna Lose You\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0a five-star review of \u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019<\/a>,\u00a0NME\u00a0concluded: \u201cMerciless? Yes, but there\u2019s always enough heart in the darkness and opulence in the sound to hold you and place these songs alongside The Cure\u2019s finest.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe frontman suggested that another two records may be arriving at some point, but \u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019 feels sufficient enough for the wait we\u2019ve endured, just for being arguably the most personal album of Smith\u2019s career.
