{"id":546882,"date":"2026-07-13T05:09:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T05:09:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/546882\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T05:09:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T05:09:17","slug":"transfer-of-residents-to-killarney-community-nursing-unit-will-begin-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/546882\/","title":{"rendered":"Transfer of residents to Killarney Community Nursing Unit will begin next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The phased transfer of residents to Killarney Community Nursing Unit (CNU) will begin next week.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s according to the general manager of HSE South West, Fearghal Grimes.<\/p>\n<p>He was answering a question by councillor Jackie Healy Rae at the\u00a0South West Regional Health Forum (RHF).<\/p>\n<p>Residents from Killarney District Hospital and St Columbanus Home will begin moving in on Thursday, 16 July and finish by 24 July.<\/p>\n<p>In May, Minister of State for Older People, Kieran O&#8217;Donnell announced that the 101 residents of those two hospitals would be the first to move to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiokerry.ie\/news\/killarney-community-nursing-unit-cnu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CNU<\/a>, once it opened.<\/p>\n<p>The 130-bed, Ballydribbeen facility has been dogged by delays since construction began in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>It was initially slated for completion in late 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Private Partnership (PPP) project was finally handed over to the HSE in December 2025.<\/p>\n<p>It then initially failed to secure HIQA registration, despite a pre-registration visit taking place in January, and had to resubmit the application.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Healy-Rae said that residents, families and staff have endured years of uncertainty surrounding the project.<\/p>\n<p>He added attention must now turn to the future use of the buildings that will be vacated, saying they should be used to reduce pressure on University Hospital Kerry (UHK).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The phased transfer of residents to Killarney Community Nursing Unit (CNU) will begin next week.
