EastEnders’ Ian Beale makes a devastating decision tonight, amid his recent hit-and-run incident<\/a>. With his plea hearing approaching, Ian is torn between taking responsibility for Jordan Fox’s injuries<\/a> and saving his own skin.<\/p>\n

The episode begins with a nervous Ian preparing for tomorrow’s hearing, while putting on a brave face for his family. He reminds them that he has a “good defence”, but the smile soon leaves his face when his lawyer arrives with both good and bad news.<\/p>\n

“We’ll start with the good. The CPS is open to the possibility of a careless driving charge, instead of dangerous driving,” the lawyer says, explaining that it means they can “avoid a trial”.<\/p>\n

He goes on to explain that it would “likely result in a reduced sentence” but Ian could still face a maximum of two years in prison due to Jordan’s injuries. <\/p>\n

“Mr Beale, I recommend you plead guilty,” the lawyer concludes, advising a horrified Ian that it’s the “best outcome”. <\/p>\n

After receiving conflicting advice from his family, Ian is confused about what to do. He insists he didn’t do anything wrong, but worries about ending up behind bars. <\/p>\n

Ian heads over to Peacock Palace to ask Elaine Peacock for her honest opinion. After a pep talk, he sees the Fox-Truemans welcoming Denise home from hospital and goes to check in.<\/p>\n

“Chelsea, I need you to admit why Jordan was in the road,” he begs, hoping her testimony will lighten his punishment. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the family are uninterested in his troubles as they’re preoccupied with both Jordan and Denise’s recovery. <\/p>\n

Later, Peter and Kathy find Ian<\/a> reflecting on a bench in the Square, with a solemn look on his face. He tells them that he needs to make sure Jordan “gets some justice” and that he needs to “do the right thing”.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want Jimmy and Louie being ashamed of me,” he cries, before deciding: “I’m going to plead guilty. I’m going to prison.”<\/p>\n

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.<\/p>\n
