Coronation Street<\/a> star Mollie Gallagher has discussed her impending exit from the ITV soap<\/a>, with the fan-favourite actor set to call time on her seven-year stint as Nina Lucas in the coming months.<\/p>\n

It was confirmed last month<\/a> that Gallagher would be exiting the series, with the actor having already filmed her final scenes. At the same time, it was revealed that she had landed a part in a stage production of The Silence of the Lambs, alongside John Partridge. <\/p>\n

Gallagher discussed her departure and new role during an appearance on This Morning<\/a> on Monday (13 July), with the actor telling hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley that she was excited for the future despite the difficulties of leaving a beloved role.<\/p>\n

“I don’t like change. It was really sad,” she said of her final scenes, though she provided an optimistic update for the character’s future as she teased: “I believe it’s not the end of Nina’s story. I love Corrie so much, so I really hope it’s not the end. I don’t feel like it is.”<\/p>\n

Upon the announcement of Gallagher’s exit, a Corrie<\/a> spokesperson told Digital Spy: “Mollie has created a unique and well loved character in Nina over the past six and a half years and everyone will be sorry to see her go.”<\/p>\n

“It is fantastic for Mollie that she has been given this incredible opportunity to play such an iconic role and we wish her all the best for the theatre tour,” they added.<\/p>\n

The actor also discussed her part in The Silence of the Lambs, an adaptation of Thomas Harris’s 1988 novel of the same name. The book was famously turned into a feature film in 1991, with it winning five Academy Awards including Best Picture.<\/p>\n

The stage version will tour across the UK and Ireland later this year, with the premiere taking place at Leicester’s Curve Theatre on 1 August. Gallagher will portray Clarice Starling, the role which Jodie Foster won an Oscar for in the film.<\/p>\n

She also discussed the production on This Morning, sharing: “It’s been absolutely amazing. I love theatre. I think with something as iconic as The Silence of the Lambs, people have these expectations of what they’re going to be seeing.<\/p>\n

“With the film you get Jodie and Anthony, and the close-ups. Obviously we don’t have that, but we have a live audience and we’re on the stage. We are telling the story more through the body and the voice. It’s different but it’s exciting.”<\/p>\n
