{"id":547711,"date":"2026-07-13T16:36:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T16:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/547711\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T16:36:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T16:36:08","slug":"emergency-phase-at-co-kerry-centre-due-to-hot-weather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/547711\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Emergency phase&#8217; at Co Kerry centre due to hot weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A family resource centre in Co Kerry has put in place their emergency weather protocols as a high temperature warning is in place in the county.<\/p>\n<p>Such protocols at the Buds Family Centre in Ballyduff are usually reserved for extremely low temperatures and snow, according to the centre&#8217;s manager.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as a Status Yellow high temperature warning is in place for counties Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway and Mayo.<\/p>\n<p>Among the services provided at the centre are advice and information, family support and childcare as well as covering a 15-mile radius for the Meals on Wheels service. The centre also supplies the local community caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on RT\u00c9&#8217;s News at One, Nora Lucid &#8211; manager of Buds Family Centre &#8211; said that an emergency programme for the centre&#8217;s clients has been implemented for the first time during hot weather.<\/p>\n<p>She said that their drivers have been trained and will assist clients.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s like we&#8217;re in the emergency phase now, again, where we&#8217;d be fighting the frost and the snow,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So they do the same thing again. They&#8217;ll ask them, do they need anything collected from shops, if they need shopping.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Lucid said that volunteers are finding clients staying inside due to the hot weather.<\/p>\n<p>She told the programme that because of the hot weather, people are being given lighter meal options as part of the Meals on Wheels service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have the alternative where we&#8217;re not stuck with just one [meal] without all the heavy roasts and stuff.
