People have been asked to conserve water where they can as high temperatures are set to continue over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
A status yellow high temperature warning is in place for counties Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway, and Mayo from Monday afternoon until Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Met \u00c9ireann said this would see maximum temperatures of over 27C, with overnight minimum temperatures of at least 15C, and warned that this will lead to heat stress, water safety issues, forest fires and uncomfortable sleeping conditions.<\/p>\n
Meteorologist Rebecca Cantwell told RT\u00c9 that \u201cthe end is not near, as of yet\u201d and that the \u201cgood weather keeps on coming\u201d, adding that areas of high pressure could continue into next week.<\/p>\n
She said there could also be further warnings issued later in the week.<\/p>\n
Apart from some light rain and the possibility of a few thunderstorms, this week will remain dry and largely sunny.<\/p>\n
Uisce \u00c9ireann\u2019s regional operations senior manager Stephen Burke said it was initially primarily concerned with supplies in the greater Dublin area, meaning Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and parts of Meath.<\/p>\n
He said they were \u201cincreasingly concerned\u201d now about parts of Wexford, south Tipperary, east Limerick, west Cork, west Kerry, north Donegal, mid Galway, and south Mayo due to record high demand for drinking water.<\/p>\n
Burke advised people to conserve water where they can, through activities such as avoiding watering the garden and taking shorter showers.<\/p>\n
He said this would avoid the introduction of a hosepipe ban, aka a water conservation order, though he admitted it was \u201cincreasingly likely\u201d this would be introduced.<\/p>\n
The HSE has advised people to be aware of the increased risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and sunburn.<\/p>\n
A temperature of 30 degrees was recorded at the Met \u00c9ireann weather station on Valentia, Co Kerry, on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The temperature reading requires verification but was described as a provisional station record by the forecaster in a post on X.<\/p>\n
