<\/p>\nDublin\u2019s eight-time All-Ireland SFC winner Ciar\u00e1n Kilkenny has announced his retirement from inter-county football.<\/p>\n
Debuting at senior level in an All-Ireland semi-final against Mayo in 2012 when he scored three points, Kilkenny claimed six All-Stars, five Division 1 medals and 12 Leinster titles in a remarkable career.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been the greatest honour of my life to play for Dublin, a dream I’ve had since childhood,\u201d he said in a statement issued through Dublin GAA.<\/p>\n

To those beginning your journey with Dublin GAA, I hope it brings you as much fulfilment as it brought me.<\/p>\n

Kilkenny thanked the four managers he played under during his 15 seasons as a senior Dublin footballer as well as his club.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe friendships, stories and sense of community the GAA has given me are worth far more than any result, that\u2019s why I believe it is the greatest organisation in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cMost importantly, thank you to my family and my partner Rebekah. From my father instilling in me a love of Dublin and the GAA, to my mother and sisters supporting me every step of the way, none of this would have been possible without you.<\/p>\n

Dublin chairman Ken O\u2019Sullivan hailed Kilkenny\u2019s contribution to his county.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe will forever be synonymous with Dublin\u2019s golden period of success. Ciar\u00e1n was integral to Dublin\u2019s All-Ireland wins during his career, including for the historic six-in-a-row of All-Ireland triumphs between 2015 and 2020.<\/p>\n
\u201cDublin GAA has been extremely fortunate to have the Castleknock clubman represent the county both as a player and as a role model. We wish him every success in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ger Brennan also paid tribute to Kilkenny.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was very fortunate to have both played with and managed Ciar\u00e1n during his time in the blue jersey. He has brought huge leadership to the Dublin Senior Football team for over a decade and it has been a privilege to work with him.<\/p>\n
