EastEnders referred to England’s recent World Cup quarter-final victory in tonight’s episode of the BBC soap. The Three Lions beat Norway 2 – 1 thanks to two goals from Jude Bellingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

England’s victory sees the team progress to the semi-finals<\/a>, next facing off against Argentina on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The monumental, nail-biting match was discussed in a special scene in tonight’s EastEnders episode, during a conversation between Alfie Moon and Jean Slater.<\/p>\n

The scene saw Alfie sweeping the street while singing The Lightning Seeds, David Baddiel, and Frank Skinner’s smash hit single ‘Three Lions’.<\/p>\n

Jean walks over and asks if Alfie “had an event booked or something” to explain why he was cleaning, much to his shock.<\/p>\n

“What are you talking about? Jean, it was the quarter finals of England in the World Cup,” he explained.<\/p>\n

“Yeah, Jude took a sad song and made it better, and we sent the Norwegians rowing all the way home because Jean, let me tell you now, we are in the semis.”<\/p>\n

Alfie then embraced her in his excitement, to which she laughed and said she had heard “a commotion” that woke her up during the tense match.<\/p>\n

“Thought it must be a fight or something,” Jean said, with Alfie describing the game as “incredible.”<\/p>\n

He continued: “Even though, when we went 1 – 0 down, I was biting my fingernails, it was really tense, right, but then Bellingham…Bang! Equalised, and we go one all.<\/p>\n

“But then, how about this, it went to extra time, right, and then Jude Bellingham popped up again like the hero he is, scored the winning goal.<\/p>\n

“Even though we had one goal disallowed, it didn’t really matter after that, so basically, we have taken care of the Congo, we’ve annihilated the Altitude at the Azteca, and we are victorious over the Vikings.”

Alfie excitedly told Jean that he had a feeling England could win the World Cup, to which she said she “might actually watch it then” – if it’s not on at “some ludicrous hour.”<\/p>\n

“And I tell you something else, it’s gonna get Messi for the Argies,” Alfie joked, “see what I did there?” But the joke went over Jean’s head.<\/p>\n

Only time will tell if Alfie’s prediction is right and England can walk away with the World Cup trophy for the first time since 1966.<\/p>\n

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast. <\/p>\n
