A woman and a teenage girl have appeared at Nenagh District Court charged with the murder of 29-year-old Scarlett Faulkner.<\/p>\n
The new charges were brought after directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.<\/p>\n
The 17-year-old girl and the 40-year-old woman appeared before the court this morning, where they were each charged with the murder of Ms Faulkner.<\/p>\n
The charges relate to the death of the mother of one following an alleged assault on the R494 at Birdhill, Co Tipperary, on 21 March.<\/p>\n
Ms Faulkner died in hospital three weeks later.<\/p>\n
The teenager had previously been charged with assault causing serious harm, but that charge was withdrawn.<\/p>\n
The woman had faced charges including violent disorder and endangerment, which were also withdrawn.<\/p>\n
The woman has now been charged with murder and two counts of burglary.<\/p>\n
Detective Garda Colum Godfrey gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution of the woman.<\/p>\n
Detective Garda S\u00e9amas Kelly gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution of the teenage girl.<\/p>\n
He said the girl made no reply when charged with murder.<\/p>\n
The DPP has directed that the case will now go to the Central Criminal Court.<\/p>\n
The book of evidence is due to be served at Nenagh District Court on 23 July.<\/p>\n
Both defendants were remanded in custody to appear at Nenagh District Court via video link on Friday, 17 July.<\/p>\n
A psychological report has been prepared for the teenage girl and the judge directed it be given to the prosecution.<\/p>\n
Solicitors were present, but neither of the defendants had formal representation due to the dispute with solicitors and the Department of Justice.<\/p>\n
