Djed Spence has been impressing on the world stage this summer, proving Thomas Tuchel right about naming him in his England squad for the 2026 World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> full-back was one of the more surprising names in the squad, with Spurs<\/a> having finished 17th in the Premier League<\/a> last season.<\/p>\n

Tuchel explained, when announcing his squad, that Spence “suffered” from Spurs’ poor season and the number of different managers he had to work under, but explained why he chose him, saying: “He loves defending, he\u2019s the fastest player in our squad, and he loves defending one-on-ones. That\u2019s what makes him a special full-back for us. He can play both sides. He was excellent in every match he played for us.”<\/p>\n

Spence has played in every match the Three Lions have played at the World Cup so far, starting two of the six matches and producing fine cameo appearances in the other four from the substitutes’ bench.<\/p>\n

But despite his good form for England, his domestic future may be in the balance.<\/p>\n

Roberto De Zerbi is making wholesale changes to the Tottenham squad he inherited at the end of March, adding six new faces to the north Londoners’ squad already, with three of those new signings coming in defence.<\/p>\n

And Spence could be one of the players to depart the club this summer, with his performances in America and Mexico garnering plenty of interest from other clubs.<\/p>\n

European giants Inter Milan are the latest club to make a move, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealing talks between the two clubs are well underway.<\/p>\n

He said: “Inter remain in talks for Djed Spence, as revealed here and seen as top target at right wing-back. Spurs valuation higher than Inter expectations but talks are ongoing.<\/p>\n

“The player would be open to the move.”<\/p>\n

Tottenham are understood to have slapped a \u00a340million price tag on Spence’s shoulders, with Premier League rivals Liverpool also understood to be interested in making a move for the 25-year-old<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Spence is likely to have to battle it out with Spain’s Pedro Porro for the right-back berth in De Zerbi’s side next season, with Andy Robertson coming in to challenge Destiny Udogie for the left-back spot. And without European competition next year, there will be fewer opportunities for players to make their mark.<\/p>\n

England take on Argentina in the World Cup semi-final on Wednesday night, with the winners facing a date with destiny with Spain in the final in New Jersey on Sunday. If Spence continues to impress, Spurs may well think about increasing their valuation.<\/p>\n
