{"id":551276,"date":"2026-07-15T16:56:25","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T16:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/551276\/"},"modified":"2026-07-15T16:56:25","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T16:56:25","slug":"have-patience-cllr-says-tourists-blocking-driveways-near-beaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/551276\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Have patience&#8217; &#8211; Cllr says tourists blocking driveways near beaches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A local Councillor in Sligo has pleaded with people visiting the county\u2019s beaches not to park in people\u2019s driveways.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Independent Cllr Marie Casserly said people were \u201cflocking\u201d to Sligo\u2019s beaches over the 12th July weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It all meant that beaches that were usually \u201cvery, very quiet\u201d were all of a sudden packed with visitors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, Cllr Casserly said this is putting extra pressure on the country\u2019s infrastructure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The beaches are] down country roads; so, I suppose the roads aren&#8217;t made for huge volumes of traffic &#8211; that&#8217;s the issue,\u201d she explained on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newstalk.com\/shows\/lunchtime-live-234859\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lunchtime Live<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve just been asking people to take care not to block driveways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Casserly urged local people to be \u201ctolerant\u201d of visitors to the area, noting that winter is only a few months away.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people, they&#8217;ve decided for lots of different reasons not to go away, to stay at home this year,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt might be financial; it might be just that they decide it&#8217;s easier to stay at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this weather, it&#8217;s just great to bring the kids to the beach &#8211; it doesn&#8217;t happen very often.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For visitors, Cllr Casserly suggested that \u201chave patience\u201d when trying to find a place to park.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Don\u2019t] abandon your car in a driveway,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust consider &#8211; it&#8217;s all fine until there&#8217;s a problem, isn&#8217;t it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Main image: Lahinch beach, Clare.
