Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans can expect one-off bonus airings later this month as the soaps make up for missed episodes.<\/p>\n

Both soaps have faced scheduling chaos over the past month, as ITV1’s live coverage of FIFA World Cup matches has meant that we’ve seen less of our Weatherfield and Dales favourites.<\/p>\n

With the tournament now nearing an end, schedules are beginning to return to normal. Emmerdale and Corrie are both back in their respective 8pm and 8.30pm weekday slots, with the regular schedule restored.<\/p>\n

In a bonus treat, they’ll also air in these slots on Sunday 26 July.<\/p>\n

“Soaps can often lose momentum when episodes are thrown around the schedules and fans don’t know when to tune in,” notes our source. “It’s great news that they’ll now be returning to normality.<\/p>\n

“Corrie and Emmerdale are also reverting to the 30-minute format, after a string of hour-long specials recently. This was always the plan as ITV research shows that viewers prefer the streamlined format.”<\/p>\n

Corrie has just hit the headlines for Betsy’s dramatic issue-based storyline<\/a>, which has seen her suffer a stroke after she and boyfriend Dylan Wilson experimented with strangulation during sex.<\/p>\n

“Coronation Street has always pushed boundaries when it comes to telling challenging, thought-provoking stories, and this story is no exception,” producer Kate Brooks said yesterday.<\/p>\n

“Shining a light on the dangers of this all too common trend, we wanted to chart Betsy and Dylan’s story as they navigate the catastrophic implications of a moment of naivety, and the impact not only on them, but also on their families and the wider community.<\/p>\n

“By consulting extensively with IFAS<\/a>, the Stroke Association<\/a> and Safeline<\/a>, we aimed to handle Betsy\u2019s journey with the care and sensitivity it deserves while sparking a difficult and somewhat contentious conversation that helps raise awareness of the risks involved in partaking in such acts.”<\/p>\n

There’s even more drama ahead in the next few days, as Sarah Platt is caught out<\/a> over Theo Silverton’s murder<\/a> and faces a huge dilemma over whether to betray Gary Windass.<\/p>\n

Over on Emmerdale, Cain Dingle faces another frightening life-or-death incident<\/a> next week, while there’s fresh hope for Charity Dingle<\/a> in her fight to bring evil Dr Todd<\/a> to justice.<\/p>\n

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
