EastEnders’ Denise Fox has finally come face-to-face with evil Gray’s mother Sheila<\/a>, and \u2013 after a surprisingly touching heart-to-heart \u2013 made a final decision over how much involvement she can have in little Jordan’s life. The new episode aired on BBC One tonight (Thursday, 16 July) after landing on iPlayer yesterday, one day early due to the FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n

The instalment opened with the matriarch berating Chelsea, Libby, Kim and Jack over the fact that Sheila had been allowed into their lives<\/a>, given what serial killer and abuser Gray did to multiple women \u2013 including Chelsea.<\/p>\n

Denise demanded to meet Sheila that day, and insisted Chelsea summon her over. When the woman arrived, Denise sent the others away so they could talk alone.<\/p>\n

“I’m just trying to work out what you’re getting out of this,” Denise said, speculating that Sheila wanted to be close to young Jordan because she feels “guilty” over how Gray turned out.<\/p>\n

“I’m here because Chelsea called me, told me about Jordan’s accident and the physio he needed, and I just wanted to help,” Sheila defended. “Then, when I met him, the first moment I saw him I felt that bond.<\/p>\n

“I just wanted to be close to him. And he’s such a joy. He does all the voices of his toys. You must have heard it. And he’s so strong. Even though he’s struggling with his physio, he keeps going…”<\/p>\n

Denise then felt faint, struggling with the effects of her cancer treatment. At that point, Sheila made the emotional admission that she herself had gone through breast cancer ten years earlier.<\/p>\n

The two soon found themselves bonding over their experiences, with Denise confiding: “I’ve gotta go back in next week. My chemo, it ain’t worked out as well as they hoped. I thought my family needed me, but…”<\/p>\n

“They do!” Sheila assured her. “They do need you. My getting to know Jordan isn’t a threat. You’re his grandmother, not me.”<\/p>\n

Libby and Chelsea then returned, at which point Denise delivered her verdict \u2013 telling Sheila that although she was clearly “a kind woman”, she needed to leave the family alone.<\/p>\n

“Gray traumatised this family. He near enough destroyed it,” she said. “You’re a good woman, but that makes you dangerous because I don’t believe you can stop yourself talking to Gray again. And if you give that man an inch, he’ll find his way back in. I can’t risk it. Jordan is way too precious and he’s got enough family right here.”<\/p>\n

Of course, Sheila is in contact with Gray, and viewers then saw her relaying the developments to him in the prison visiting room. She told him that her relationship with Jordan was “good while it lasted”, but he ordered her not to give up.<\/p>\n

“How can you just turn your back on him now you’ve formed a bond? If Denise dies, he’s going to need a grandparent in his life to support him. Chelsea won’t be able to cope alone. He needs you,” the villain said.<\/p>\n
