A 24-year-old woman has died and a man has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash<\/a> in north Belfast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Raven Adams, originally from the Tipperary<\/a> area, died after the collision involving a car and two pedestrians.<\/p>\n

A man was also seriously injured in the York Street area at around 2.40am on Thursday and taken to hospital.<\/p>\n

Police said the driver of the car \u201cfled the scene\u201d but was arrested nearby.<\/p>\n

Det Insp Stewart from PSNI<\/a> said: \u201cIt was reported the pedestrians were struck by a vehicle \u2013 the driver of which, a 22-year-old man, subsequently fled the scene and was later arrested by officers in the nearby Cavehill area.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe remains in police custody at this time as inquiries continue into the circumstances of what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

This latest incident brings the number of people killed on the North\u2019s road to date for this year to 39, up from 27 as of July 15th last year. <\/p>\n

North Belfast DUP MLA Phillip Brett said in a statement he was \u201cdeeply saddened by the tragic death of Raven Adams. A young woman with her whole life ahead of her has been taken far too soon in truly heartbreaking circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said he had been in contact with Raven\u2019s family and offered \u201con behalf of the people of North Belfast, our deepest sympathies and to let them know they are in the thoughts of our entire community\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am also thinking of the young man who remains in hospital with serious injuries, and I sincerely wish him a full and speedy recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout North Belfast. The outpouring of sympathy from local people has demonstrated the compassion and decency that exists within our community at such a difficult time.\u201d <\/p>\n

He added: \u201cFinally, I want to pay tribute to the emergency services who responded so quickly and professionally to what is clearly an extremely serious incident.\u201d<\/p>\n

The PSNI appealed to anyone with information about the collision or who has dash-cam footage of what happened to contact them using its witness appeal form at reporting.psni.police.uk\/appeals<\/a> quoting reference 181 16\/07\/26 or calling 101. <\/p>\n
