A 24-year-old Tipperary woman has died and a man has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash in north Belfast.<\/p>\n
Raven Adams died after she and a man were struck by a car.<\/p>\n
The man was also seriously injured in the crash in the York Street Area at around 2.40am on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The driver of the car \u201cfled the scene\u201d, police said, but was later arrested.<\/p>\n
Detective Inspector Stewart from the Police Service of Northern Ireland\u2019s (PSNI) collision investigation unit said: \u201cIt was reported the pedestrians were struck by a vehicle \u2013 the driver of which, a 22-year-old man, subsequently fled the scene, and was later arrested by officers in the nearby Cavehill area.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe remains in police custody at this time as enquiries continue into the circumstances of what happened.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The detective added: \u201cOfficers attended the scene, alongside colleagues from other emergency services where medical treatment was provided to both pedestrians.<\/p>\n
\u201cSadly, the female was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the man has been taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe road has now fully reopened following a number of earlier closures in the area.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
A local MLA said the community was left \u201cin shock\u201d following the \u201cvery serious\u201d road crash.<\/p>\n
DUP MLA Philip Brett said he is \u201cdeeply saddened\u201d by what happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe local community is in shock at the seriousness of what has happened, and my thoughts are with everyone affected, together with their families and loved ones, at this incredibly difficult time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
