Godox has released the KNOWLED AM800R, an 800W full-color LED inflatable mat light with a 4\u2019\u00d74\u2032 (1.2 x 1.2m) surface, a 1,800K to 10,000K CCT range, and IP65 weather resistance for both the light body and controller. First shown at NAB 2026, the fixture inflates to 8 PSI in about one minute and is now available for pre-order at $3,990.<\/p>\n

The AM800R completes a picture Godox has been sketching for a while now. Last year, the company introduced the\u00a0KNOWLED AM1600R<\/a>, a large inflatable mat light in 4\u2019\u00d78\u2032 and 8\u2019\u00d78\u2032 configurations, and it has been steadily expanding the KNOWLED ecosystem with fixtures like the\u00a0M300R RGBWW LED<\/a>, the\u00a0MG4KR full-color COB<\/a>, and the recently launched\u00a0P600R Hard P4 and P1200R Hard P8 panels<\/a>. With the AM800R, the inflatable airframe concept now arrives in the 4\u2019\u00d74\u2032 format that many gaffers consider the workhorse size for soft sources on interviews, commercials, and mid-sized narrative sets.<\/p>\n

The core idea remains the same as on the larger AM1600R: instead of rigging a rigid frame or a truss-supported softbox, the AM800R uses an inflatable butterfly airframe that pressurizes to 8 PSI in roughly one minute. According to Godox, a single inflation holds its shape for up to 15 days, so crews can keep the fixture rigged across a multi-day shoot without topping up the air. The light body itself measures 120 x 120cm (4 x 4ft) without the airframe and weighs 4.95kg (10.9 lb), while the separate controller adds 6.40kg (14.1 lb) and measures 31.5 x 18 x 14cm (12.4 x 7.1 x 5.5in).<\/p>\n

Godox says the construction has been reinforced for production use. A carbon fiber backplate supports the flexible PCB to reduce deformation stress, and the airframe fabric is designed to resist scratches and abrasion from frequent handling. These are manufacturer claims we have not yet verified in practice, but the approach addresses a real concern with inflatable structures on busy sets. Should a puncture happen anyway, an airframe repair kit is included, and the LED modules themselves are replaceable, which should help keep long-term ownership costs in check for rental houses.<\/p>\n

On the color side, the AM800R follows the established KNOWLED formula. The CCT range runs from 1,800K to 10,000K with green\/magenta adjustment from -100 to +100, and the fixture offers CCT, HSI, RGBW, GEL, X-Y, and FX modes with 12 built-in effects. Godox quotes a CRI of approximately 96, a TLCI of approximately 98, and a TM-30 Rf of around 96, figures that would need independent testing to confirm. Dimming is available from 0 to 100% across four curves: linear, S-curve, exponential, and logarithmic.<\/p>\n

Light shaping is handled through detachable microstructure diffusion fabrics, with three variants (D11-32, D11-32+, and D13-30+) providing different levels of softness. A honeycomb grid (model AF44G) is included in the kit to reduce spill and tighten the beam, which is particularly useful when the mat is flown close to talent and you need to keep light off the background.<\/p>\n

Because the fixture is so light, Godox promotes truss-free rigging alongside conventional floor-mounted and boom-arm setups. A foldable U-bracket with a quick-mount design offers a 300\u00b0 adjustment range, and high-strength D-rings along the edges allow multiple AM800R units to be linked into larger lighting surfaces. In that sense, the 4\u2019\u00d74\u2032 unit works as a building block: two units combine into a 4\u2019\u00d78\u2032 source, four into an 8\u2019\u00d78\u2032 wall, mirroring the fixed sizes of the AM1600R.<\/p>\n

The IP65 rating is worth highlighting, as it covers both the light body and the controller and represents a step up from the IP54 rating of the AM1600R. Rain covers for ballasts and controllers are a familiar annoyance on exteriors, so a fully sealed system simplifies wet-weather work considerably. The working temperature range spans -20\u00b0C to 45\u00b0C (-4\u00b0F to 113\u00b0F), and the light runs on 110-240V AC at 800W, with an 8m (26.2ft) DC cable built into the light body to keep the controller out of the shot.<\/p>\n

Control options cover the expected professional protocols: wired DMX\/RDM, wireless CRMX, and Ethernet with Art-Net and sACN support for console-driven multi-light environments. Bluetooth control via the Godox KNOWLED app works from up to 60m (197ft), and on-board control through the controller unit rounds out the options. A USB-A port handles firmware updates and doubles as a 5V power supply.<\/p>\n

The kit, sold as the AM800R 44K, packs the light body with its built-in DC cable, the controller, the folding yoke, the grid, the diffusion fabrics, an air pump, the repair kit, an AC power cable, and a custom flight case. The folded light body, deflated airframe, and accessories all fit into that single case, which should make van packs and fly-away jobs noticeably easier than hauling a traditional 4\u2019\u00d74\u2032 frame with separate rag bags.<\/p>\n
