{"id":554640,"date":"2026-07-17T16:09:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T16:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/554640\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T16:09:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T16:09:08","slug":"aer-lingus-chief-cashes-in-e895000-iag-shares-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/554640\/","title":{"rendered":"Aer Lingus chief cashes in \u20ac895,000 IAG shares \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/aer-lingus\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/aer-lingus\/\">Aer Lingus<\/a> chief executive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/lynne-embleton\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/lynne-embleton\/\">Lynne Embleton<\/a> cashed in close to \u20ac900,000 worth of shares in the Irish carrier\u2019s owner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/international-airlines-group\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/international-airlines-group\/\">International Airlines Group (IAG)<\/a>, at the end of May, figures show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The airline is seeking to cut up to 500 jobs from a workforce of 6,500 to aid it in tackling rising costs and increased competition in key parts of its business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Company filings show Embleton cashed in \u00a3775,005 sterling (\u20ac895,000) worth of IAG shares on May 28th last, within weeks of the group published financial results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Embleton receives share options in IAG as part of her pay, a common practice for rewarding executives in stock market-quoted companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Strict rules govern when executives with such deals can cash in share options or transact in company stock as they have access to information on the business that can affect its shares\u2019 value.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Several other IAG executives also cashed in options around the same time as Embleton, the filings show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2026\/07\/16\/aer-lingus-to-cut-up-to-500-jobs\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aer Lingus faces clash with unions as 500 jobs to goOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">IAG published financial results almost three weeks earlier showing that Aer Lingus had lost \u20ac103 million in the three months to the end of March 31st.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Share options cashed in the airline\u2019s chief would have been awarded to her before that three-month period. Aer Lingus earned \u20ac282 million profit last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Embleton confirmed in May that the airline was reviewing costs.
