{"id":554921,"date":"2026-07-17T19:57:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T19:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/554921\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T19:57:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T19:57:14","slug":"william-weston-young-watercolours-expected-to-fetch-thousands-at-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/554921\/","title":{"rendered":"William Weston Young watercolours expected to fetch thousands at auction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A series of watercolours by a Welsh ceramicist are to go under the hammer at auction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">An album of original bird watercolours by William Weston Young are expected to fetch up to \u00a325,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Young, who died in 1847, was one of the defining figures in Welsh ceramics and was best known for his work at the Cambrian Pottery and Nantgarw China Works.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He was an accomplished artist, inventor and entrepreneur and the accidental inventor of the modern blast-furnace brick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Young lived in the Neath Valley and painted Welsh nature, depicting scientifically accurate birds and botanical specimens onto clay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Rogers Jones Auctioneers are selling Young&#8217;s original working drawings for his celebrated porcelain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They are preserved within one bound volume of 41 sketches.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A series of watercolours by a Welsh ceramicist are to go under the hammer at auction.
