Serena Sugden made a shocking exit from the soap in tonight’s (17 July) episode after one of her secrets was exposed. West End star Casey Al-Shaqsy joined the soap last month<\/a> as a new member of the Sugden family.<\/p>\n

After arriving in the village, the mysterious Serena has been lurking around<\/a>, trying to gather information about the late John Sugden. <\/p>\n

Viewers know that John was killed in self-defence by Victoria during the special episode of Corriedale.<\/p>\n

In Wednesday’s episode, Aaron and Robert confronted Serena, asking whether she was an undercover police officer, and she said she was no longer with the police. <\/p>\n

Serena said that John had cashed in his army pension to help her save the family farm, and she offered to give the remaining money to John’s victims. <\/p>\n

However, she wasn’t done with her digging. After finding out that Victoria had gone to Portugal with her son shortly after John’s supposed suicide, she put the clues together and realised that Victoria had murdered John.<\/p>\n

Despite promising to keep this to herself, the episode ended on a cliffhanger as Serena walked into the police station. <\/p>\n

In tonight’s episode, Aaron and Robert discovered that Serena had been in contact with John much more recently than she’d been letting on, after Chas stole Serena’s phone and took a look. <\/p>\n

The trio confronted Serena, saying that she had photos with John from when he was on the run in December. <\/p>\n

When Robert asked her why she lied about how recently she had seen John, Serena said: “I knew it was painful, so I didn’t bring it up. I was trying to protect you.”<\/p>\n

Robert told her she could have told them the truth, but Aaron and Robert told her to pack her bags and leave. Serena packed her car and headed out of the village. <\/p>\n

This isn’t the last we’ve seen of Serena, who has only just been announced as a new character. She’ll be back in the village soon. <\/p>\n

Speaking about being cast in the soap, Al-Shaqsy said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining such an iconic show and playing a Sugden! Serena is a fantastic character with so much going on beneath the surface. I can’t wait for the audience to see the drama unfold.”<\/p>\n

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
