\n\tTwo character stills of Priyanka Chopra Jonas from S.S. Rajamouli<\/a>\u2018s \u201cVaranasi<\/a>\u201d were released Saturday to mark the actor\u2019s birthday.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cVaranasi\u201d spans thousands of years and traverses multiple continents, with locations ranging from Antarctica to Africa to the titular Indian city.\u00a0Mahesh Babu<\/a>\u00a0plays the dual roles of the protagonist Rudhra and Hindu God Rama,\u00a0Priyanka Chopra Jonas<\/a>\u00a0plays\u00a0a character named Mandakini\u00a0<\/a>and the main antagonist Kumbha is played by Prithviraj Sukumaran.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe character of Mandakini required specific qualities that Rajamouli believes Chopra Jonas uniquely possesses. \u201cShe can be a really kick-ass girl, and she has to be really vulnerable. [There are] very few actors who can do both in the same character,\u201d he had told Variety<\/a>. \u201cShe did a fantastic job, and I\u2019m so happy that I have her on board.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film marks Chopra Jonas\u2019 return to Indian cinema after a run of Hollywood projects including \u201cCitadel\u201d and \u201cThe Matrix Resurrections.\u201d She has described the production<\/a> as career-defining. \u201cIf there was any way of coming back to Indian cinema, it would be with the biggest Indian movie being made, and that undertaking is this film,\u201d she says. \u201cI think Sir\u2019s vision is unlike anyone in this country or abroad. His cohort, if I may say so, is the Spielbergs of the world, the Nolans of the world, the Finchers of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cVaranasi\u201d is Rajamouli\u2019s follow-up to the Academy Award-winning \u201cRRR\u201d. MM Keeravani, who won the Oscar for \u201cRRR\u2019s\u201d \u201cNaatu Naatu,\u201d is returning to score the new film.<\/p>\n
