David Whelan and his longtime love, Ruth Devine<\/a>, have tied the knot.<\/p>\n

The Wild Youth singer exchanged vows with the professional dancer in the beautiful coastal resort of Vilamoura in Portugal on Friday, July 17.<\/p>\n

Ruth stayed true to her maiden name and looked simply divine as a bride, opting for a gown that gave quiet luxury vibes.<\/p>\n

Ruth’s wedding dress boasted a straight strapless neckline with a folded band across the bust. Adding an element of sophistication, a matching detachable scarf was wrapped loosely around her neck and trailed behind her.<\/p>\n

The bodice of the gown was simple and tailored with subtle horizontal draping, free from any embellishments. It had a slim column silhouette that skimmed the body rather than flaring out.<\/p>\n

Ruth wore her blonde locks swept back into a neat updo, letting her dress do all the talking.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, David looked dapper in black slacks, a white shirt, an ivory tux jacket, and a black bowtie.<\/p>\n

‘What a dream,’ the singer wrote as he shared a first look at himself and his bride on Friday. This was met with an outpouring of congratulations from well-known faces, including Katja Mia, Rosanna Davison, Niamh Cullen, and Bonnie Ryan.<\/p>\n

David and Ruth are teenage sweethearts who have been together for almost two decades, from the age of 13.<\/p>\n

They were both just 13 years old when they met, both working on a modelling job in Dublin. He recalled how the shoot was on Grafton Street, and he was impressed with Ruth\u2019s confidence at knowing her way around the city, saying she headed to the bus stop while he waited for his dad to collect him.<\/p>\n

Although they first met as young teenagers, it would take a few more years before they became a solid couple, with David saying that he \u2018chased her for years and then they broke up\u2019 before reconnecting a few years ago.<\/p>\n

The secret to their success? David said: ‘Honesty is the best policy, so when someone feels something, we talk about it.<\/p>\n

‘It is tough when you are rehearsing [for DWTS] every day, and you are in the studio for the whole weekend. My girlfriend gets up for work at 7am, and when I am home from rehearsals she is getting into bed. We are both wrecked and tired.’<\/p>\n

Ruth stood by David’s side after he suffered a major injury<\/a> when he fell from a height of eight feet and crushed his shoulder.<\/p>\n

David called his bride \u2018the most solid person I could have ever asked for\u2019 during his long recovery.<\/p>\n

‘My support is amazing. I found out last year who my people are when this accident happened; I found out who had my back and who actually cared about me,’ he said.<\/p>\n

‘Ruth was the most solid person I could have ever asked for when this happened. She went beyond to keep me sane because I was kind of losing my mind when this injury happened.’<\/p>\n
