\n\tYami Gautam<\/a>-starrer \u201cArticle 370<\/a>\u201d won best feature film at India\u2019s 72nd National Film Awards, announced Saturday in New Delhi by the country\u2019s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.<\/p>\n

\n\tGautam also took best actress for her role in the film, a political drama centered on the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. The film was produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios and directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale.<\/p>\n

The best actor prize was shared between Mammootty<\/a>, honored for Malayalam-language \u201cBramayugam,\u201d and Kartik Aaryan<\/a>, recognized for Bollywood film \u201cChandu Champion.\u201d Rajkumar Periasamy won best director for Tamil-language film \u201cAmaran.\u201d Randeep Hooda won best debut director for Bollywood film \u201cSwatantrya Veer Savarkar.\u201d Best actress in a supporting role was shared between Sachana Namidass for the Tamil-language film \u201cMaharaja\u201d and Ropashree Varkady for the Kannada-language film \u201cMithya.\u201d Sanjay Mishra took best actor in a supporting role for Hindi-language film \u201cBhakshak.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTelugu-language blockbuster \u201cKalki 2898 AD\u201d was named best popular film providing wholesome entertainment, while the Tamil film \u201cCaptain Miller\u201d won best feature film promoting national, social and environmental values. The Telugu film \u201c35 \u2013 Chinna Katha Kaadu\u201d won best children\u2019s film.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the non-feature side, \u201cBhangaar,\u201d a Marathi-English film directed by Sumira Roy, won best non-feature film, and \u201cRam-Nami,\u201d directed by Bharatbala Ganapathy, took best documentary.<\/p>\n

\n\tTechnical honors were spread widely. Shehnad Jalal won best cinematography for \u201cBramayugam,\u201d while R. Kalaivannan took best editing for \u201cAmaran.\u201d Best screenplay was split three ways: Bandreddi Sukumar for original screenplay (\u201cPushpa: The Rule Part 2\u201d), Yogesh Deshpande for adapted screenplay (\u201cSwargandharva Sudhir Phadke\u201d) and Venky Atluri for dialogue (\u201cLucky Baskhar\u201d). Manas Choudhury won best sound design for \u201cBhool Bhulaiyaa 3,\u201d and Nitin Zihani Choudhary took best production design for \u201cKalki 2898 AD.\u201d Best make-up honors went to P. Ravi Kumar for \u201cCommittee Kurrollu.\u201d Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma shared best costume design for \u201cPushpa: The Rule Part 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBest music direction went to Shashwat Sachdev for songs in \u201cArticle 370\u201d and G.V. Prakash Kumar for background score in \u201cAmaran.\u201d Manoj Muntashir won best lyrics for \u201cMaidaan,\u201d Vijay Ganguly took best choreography for \u201cStree 2,\u201d and Anl Arasu won best action direction for \u201cMaharaja.\u201d Abhay Jodhpurkar and Vaikom Vijayalakshmi won best male and female playback singer, respectively, for \u201cGharat Ganpati\u201d and \u201cA.R.M.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRegional-language honors went to \u201cJuiphool\u201d (Assamese), \u201cChalchitra Ekhon\u201d (Bengali), \u201cMaaran\u201d (Gujarati), \u201cSrikanth\u201d (Hindi), \u201cMithya\u201d (Kannada), \u201cMog Asum\u201d (Konkani), \u201cFeminichi Fathima\u201d (Malayalam), \u201cSunita\u201d (Manipuri), \u201cMukkam Post Bombilwadi\u201d (Marathi), \u201cLahari\u201d (Odia), \u201cRaayan\u201d (Tamil, directed by Dhanush) and \u201cCommittee Kurrollu\u201d (Telugu). \u201cDholi\u201d and \u201cImbu\u201d won best film honors in Garhwali and Tulu, respectively.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpecial mentions in the feature category went to Dhanush for \u201cCaptain Miller\u201d and sound mix engineer Suren G. for \u201cMeiyazhagan.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere in the non-feature section, \u201cKakori\u201d won best biographical\/historical reconstruction film, \u201cMain Nida\u201d took best arts\/culture film, and \u201cPiplantri: A Tale of Eco Feminism\u201d won for promoting social and environmental values. \u201cTouched as Water,\u201d directed by Joshy Benedict, won best animation film, and \u201cHamsafar\u201d (Marathi) won best short film. Aanand L. Rai won best direction in the non-feature category for \u201cStatue of Unity \u2013 Ekta ka Prateek.\u201d Edmond Ranson won best cinematography for \u201cLife in Loom,\u201d and T.S. Hari Hara Sudhan took best sound design for \u201cBlue.\u201d Special mentions went to \u201cBhadra-Kali Natakam,\u201d directed by Ananda Jyothi, and \u201cChola Dora aur Sui,\u201d directed by Jaymin Modi and Lokesh Ghai.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the Best Writing on Cinema section, Kenchanuru Pradeep Kumar Shetty won the best book prize for \u201cNaaniruvude Nimagaagi Naadiruvude Nanagaagi: Kannada Cinemada Thathva Matthu Rajakeeya,\u201d a Kannada-language work on the philosophy and politics of Kannada cinema, published by Mirror Pusthaka. Sanjeev Shrivastava won best film critic.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe feature film awards were decided by a central jury chaired by Malayalam filmmaker Jayaraj, with separate regional panels feeding into the selection. The non-feature film jury was chaired by Aseem Sinha, and the Best Writing on Cinema jury was chaired by A. Chandrasekhar.
