Mariah Carey<\/a>\u00a0has released a\u00a030th anniversary edition of her album \u2018Daydream\u2019, featuring previously unheard recordings from her private writing sessions.<\/p>\n

The 33-track digital edition arrived yesterday (July 17), combining the original album with unreleased material, rare B-sides, remixes,\u00a0acapellas\u00a0and live performances.<\/p>\n

Most notably, the collection also marks the first time Carey has agreed to release excerpts from her private writing sessions for \u2018I Am Free\u2019, which she made with Walter Afanasieff, as well as the Babyface<\/a>\u00a0collaboration \u2018Melt Away\u2019.<\/p>\n

Announcing the release on social media, Carey reflected on the making of\u00a0the original record, writing:\u00a0\u201cThis album marked an era of firsts for me: my first rap collaboration on the iconic \u2018Fantasy\u2019 remix with\u00a0O.D.B.<\/a>, my first time working with JD, my first world tour, my first time directing a music video on my own, and so many more.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s only fitting to include some \u2018firsts\u2019 on this anniversary edition too! Most notably, this is the first time I\u2019ve ever agreed (or rather, been convinced) to release my private writing sessions for \u2018I Am Free\u2019 (with Walter A.) and \u2018Melt Away\u2019 (with Babyface).<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope you enjoy this lil\u2019 glimpse into the making of these songs, along with remixes, live performances, acapellas, and b-sides.\u201d<\/p>\n

The expanded edition also features the Ol\u2019 Dirty Bastard-assisted remix of \u2018Fantasy\u2019, the version of \u2018Always Be My Baby\u2019 featuring Da Brat and Xscape, and the B-sides \u2018Slipping Away\u2019 and \u2018One Night\u2019.<\/p>\n

Physical versions will be released on October 16, including\u00a03LP, two-CD\u00a0and cassette editions. The vinyl collection will feature Carey\u2019s full 1995 Madison Square Garden concert for the first time, while a limited-edition pink vinyl pressing of the original album will also be available.\u00a0Pre-order your copy\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Carey is also set to premiere a previously unseen \u2018Making Of Fantasy\u2019 featurette on her YouTube channel on Monday (July 20), offering behind-the-scenes footage from the music video, which she directed herself.<\/p>\n

\u2018Daydream\u2019 was originally released in October 1995 as Carey\u2019s fifth studio album and included the singles \u2018Fantasy\u2019, \u2018Always Be My Baby\u2019 and \u2018One Sweet Day\u2019, her collaboration with\u00a0Boyz II Men<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Carey also\u00a0secretly worked on an alternative rock album during the \u2018Daydream\u2019 sessions<\/a>, which was eventually released under the band name Chick as \u2018Someone\u2019s Ugly Daughter\u2019, although her own lead-vocal version remains unreleased.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year,\u00a0Foo Fighters and The Pretty Reckless\u2019 Taylor Momsen joined forces to cover two tracks from the project<\/a>, \u2018Love Is\u00a0A\u00a0Scam\u2019 and \u2018Demented\u2019,\u00a0at the MusiCares Person\u00a0Of\u00a0The\u00a0Year benefit\u00a0honouring\u00a0Carey in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

In other news,\u00a0Carey was among the nominees for the Rock\u00a0And\u00a0Roll Hall\u00a0Of\u00a0Fame\u2019s class of 2026<\/a>, alongside\u00a0Oasis<\/a>,\u00a0Iron Maiden<\/a>,\u00a0Sade<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Joy Division<\/a>\/New Order<\/a>, although she did not make the final list of inductees.<\/p>\n

She was also awarded\u00a0over\u00a0$90,000\u00a0in December after\u00a0a judge dismissed a copyright lawsuit relating to \u2018All I Want For\u00a0Christmas Is You\u2019<\/a>.
