{"id":557636,"date":"2026-07-19T15:22:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-19T15:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/557636\/"},"modified":"2026-07-19T15:22:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-19T15:22:09","slug":"efforts-to-dampen-wildfire-on-wicklow-dublin-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/557636\/","title":{"rendered":"Efforts to dampen wildfire on Wicklow Dublin border"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wicklow Fire Service and the National Parks &amp; Wildlife Service have been working again this morning to dampen wildfires that have been burning for days in an area on the Wicklow\/Dublin border.<\/p>\n<p>Wildfires have ravaged 200-300 hectares in the Glencree\/Featherbed mountain area and fire fighters brought the fires under control yesterday with aid of several helicopters.<\/p>\n<p>They are at the scene again today putting water on hotspots in the bog and say current conditions are favourable for keeping the fire under control.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, several helicopters were employed to drop water on the fires.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the area has been drained and dried out when peat was extracted some years ago and this has left it vulnerable to fire, according to the Wicklow Fire Service.<\/p>\n<p>While the immediate causes of the fires have not been established fire fighters says it was due to human activity, possibly accidental.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures in the area are falling which may help control the fires but rising winds are also causing concern.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wicklow Fire Service and the National Parks &amp; Wildlife Service have been working again this morning to dampen&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":557637,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[61,60,43],"class_list":["post-557636","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/557636","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=557636"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/557636\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/557637"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=557636"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=557636"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=557636"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
